“‘Good Family Dog’ Killed By Live Wires Downed By Storm,” by Shannon Hicks, published August 14. A family dog was killed last weekend after it encountered downed wires that were still electrified four days after Tropical Storm Isaias. Last Saturday morning, Sandy Hook residents Rebecca and John Fung let their dog, a 12-year-old Lab named Buddy, outside. “‘Misinformation From Eversource’ Spells More Disappointment For Thousands Without Power,” by Shannon Hicks, published August 9. First Selectman Dan Rosenthal was very clear in his latest post-Tropical Storm Isaias CodeRED message: the utility charged with providing electricity to Newtown continues to fail with restoration. This time, he said, the utility’s efforts are not only slow, but the information given to the utility’s liaison to forward to local leaders was wrong. “‘Insulting Slow Burn’ Prompts Officials To Give A Voice To Eversource Ratepayers,” by John Voket, published August 12. Reflecting what they said were the voices of Eversource ratepayers left in the dark and suffering in extreme heat without electricity — some for nearly nine days — state and local officials joined together on the steps of Edmond Town Hall Wednesday morning, August 12, calling for an apology, for humility, and for the utility to ensure that the situation resulting from storm Isaias never happens again.
