“Superintendent Authorized To Adjust Fall Return Plan,” by Eliza Hallabeck, published August 13. On August 11, a quorum of four Board of Education members unanimously authorized Newtown’s Superintendent of Schools Dr Lorrie Rodrigue to make changes to its 2021-22 Return To School Plan following an executive order by the governor. “Serious Crash On I-84 Requires Multi-Agency Response,” by Shannon Hicks, published August 13. Three fire companies, two ambulance crews, a paramedic, a heavy-duty wrecker, and state troopers all responded to I-84 West after a full-size pickup truck went down an embankment. “Former Newtown Educator Pens Debut Horror Collection,” by Alissa Silber, published August 11. Woodbury resident and author E.C. Hanson is releasing his debut horror collection, All Things Deadly (Salem Stories), this month. Before getting his start, Hanson was a student teacher and intern at Reed Intermediate School then worked at Newtown Middle School in a support staff role. “Construction To Begin At Sandy Hook Permanent Memorial August 23,” by Jim Taylor, published August 12. With the Board of Selectmen expected to approve a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for the Sandy Hook Permanent Memorial at its then upcoming August 16 meeting, Downes Construction Company Vice President of Preconstruction Jeffrey Anderson announced that work will begin at the site on August 23.     Hi, does anyone know if Newtown High School is forcing kids to test for COVID? We live in Newtown, but my son goes to a school in a different town. We’re looking at moving him to NHS. Many thanks.
