Harry Noroian, 85, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Newtown, passed away unexpectedly on August 2.

Born on January 9, 1939, in El Centro, Calif., he was a devoted husband to Mabel Noroian (Wines) (predeceased) for 43 years, a life partner to Marilyn Vanassche, and a loving father to his only child Alison Noroian and her spouse Timothy Johnston of Shelton.

Dad was hard-working and dedicated. He spent 27 years working as a police officer/detective with Newtown Police Department, where he was known for his ability to be intuitive, compassionate and determined. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and his friends. He took much joy in having gatherings at his home.

Though Dad did not like being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored. He was a man to whom you could look up to, a devoted husband and companion, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him, especially me his daughter.

Dad’s love for travel took him to many corners of the world. He loved to try all the new cuisines. When not on the move he became very tech savvy. He will tell you he owes this to fellow police officers (you know who you are) for forcing him to use the computer in the 80s when they were installed. He always had to have the newest iPhone and just before his passing he purchased a Tesla, my motorhead, car guy, dad bought a Tesla because they were tech heavy. Thanks Elon.

Harry is survived by his daughter Alison and son in-law Tim, loving companion Marilyn, many cousins on the West Coast, as well as many friends and extended family members who do and will miss him dearly and always.

A funeral service was held privately due to out of state arrangements. A memorial service will be held in September and notifications will be sent out. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Newtown Police Union. Checks can be sent to NPD, 191 South Main Street Newtown CT 06470. It was a cause Dad supported and helped create to make it what it is today.

I am finding comfort in knowing that Dad’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught me, the love he shared, and the memories I will cherish forever. With a broken heart I say goodbye and I love you.
