Newtown High School graduating seniors Emma Formica and Juliano Barnes were each awarded a $500 scholarship from Hiram Lodge #18 on Wednesday, June 26.

Both Formica and Barnes received the scholarship for pursuing further education in a “hands-on” field that directly benefits the Newtown community, with Formica pursuing nursing and Barnes pursuing welding.

They were celebrated with a short presentation also attended by family and several Lodge brothers, including Lodge Secretary James Bergeron, Lodge Past Grandmaster George Greytak, and Lodge Treasurer Tom Milligan, the latter of whom excitedly presented Formica and Barnes with their scholarships.

The presentation was led by Milligan and Lodge brother Joseph Porco, who also touched on the history of the Lodge and on Freemasonry.
