Christine Samoskevich, 91, passed away peacefully at home, July 1, 2024, on a beautiful summer afternoon.

She and her late husband, Peter (Pete), lived in Newtown for over 53 years. Christine was born in Bridgeport, and was one of ten children to the late Helen and John Popovich.

She began her early career at SNET as a telephone operator and later at Newtown High School as a cook. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend. Her home was an open door to all who gathered to share a meal, a conversation, or a cup of tea. She was an incredible cook and hosted endless holiday occasions.

Her recipes were graciously shared with those willing to write them down as she recited. She was a math extraordinaire, crossword puzzle solver, card player and word speller. Throughout decades of medical challenge, she never complained; reminding us to be grateful for each and every day because “things could always be worse” and ending every conversation with an earnest, “thank you.”

She will be sorely missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jason Dayton, her son, David Samoskevich and granddaughter, Emma Samoskevich. Her sister, Pauline Meath and many loving friends including Rose Bombero, Sandi Lubin and Florence Evanko.

There are no calling hours. Services are private and have been entrusted to the Adzima Funeral Home — Stratford. For more information or to make an online condolence, please visit adzimafuneralhome.com.
