Firearm Charge

Newtown Police report that at approximately 9:18 pm June 10, officers were dispatched to 66 Church Hill Road, the Blue Colony Diner, for a report of suspicious activity.

Upon arrival, officers were advised of a possible disturbance between a man and woman. Upon investigation, Christopher Wallace, 38, of Newtown, was taken into custody and charged with illegally carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Wallace was released on a $500 bond with a court date of June 25 in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Charge

Newtown Police report that at approximately 11:39 pm June 15, officers responded to Botsford Hill Road near the railroad bridge for the report of a motor vehicle accident (MVA). Upon arrival, the operator and a passenger were found outside the vehicle and did not report any injuries. Following an investigation, Victor Mones, 41, of Bridgeport, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operating under suspension, operating without a license, and failure to drive right.

Mones was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of July 2 in Danbury Superior Court.

Failure To Heed Stop Sign

Newtown Police report Idrovo Rivera, 19, of New Milford, operating a 2021 BMW M340xi, was traveling northbound on Hanover Road at 7:58 pm June 17. Bridget Gogliettino, 21, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Jeep Compass, was traveling westbound on Schoolhouse Hill Road. Rivera hit Gogliettino’s vehicle in the intersection of the two roads.

Rivera and a passenger were transported to Danbury Hospital for possible minor injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Rivera was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way from a stop sign.

Trailer Hits Car

Newtown Police report Donato Telesco, 73, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2011 Mazda CX-9, was towing an unregistered trailer eastbound on Berkshire Road approaching Toddy Hill Road in the right eastbound travel lane at 3:12 pm June 18. Diane Licata, 53, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling eastbound in the left side eastbound travel lane, next to Telesco’s vehicle. Telesco moved into the left eastbound travel lane, causing the left side of the trailer to collide with the right side of Licata’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Telesco’s vehicle was towed.

Telesco was issued an infraction for towing an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to maintain the proper lane.

Struck Lawn Jockey

Newtown Police report Brayden Magliulo, 19, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, was traveling northbound on Hanover Road at 3:54 pm June 19. Tod Bogdanoff, 68, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Nissan Frontier, was traveling westbound on Hall Lane and came to a stop for the stop sign at the intersection with Hanover Road. Bogdanoff started to cross over Hanover Road heading to Hall Lane, when the right front section of Magliulo’s vehicle struck the left front section of his vehicle. Following the impact, Magliulo’s vehicle continued to travel, crossing over the southbound lane of Hanover and into a private driveway and striking some Belgium blocks and a concrete lawn jockey.

Both drivers were transported to Danbury Hospital for suspected minor injuries. The report does not indicate if either vehicle was towed.

The incident is still under investigation.

Unreasonable Distance

Newtown Police report Jaime Shore, 41, of Newtown, operating a 2004 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling westbound on Sugar Street at 5:23 pm June 19. She was traveling behind a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban operated by Eva Rizio, 41, of Redding. Rizio stopped for traffic and Shore was unable to stop in time, rear-ending Rizio’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Shore’s vehicle was towed.

Shore was issued an infraction for following an unreasonable distance apart.

Backed Into Vehicle

Newtown Police report Isabel Gietz, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Honda Accord, was attempting to back out of a parking spot in the lot of 38 Church Hill Road at 8:58 pm June 20. Carolyn Whaley, 46, of The Bronx, N.Y., operating a 2024 Acura RDX, was traveling south in the same lot. Gietz backed into the front left side of Whaley’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Two Trapped In Vehicle

Newtown Police report that Glen Atherton, 73, of The Bronx, N.Y., operating a 2020 Acura MDX, was traveling south on Botsford Hill Road at 9:40 pm June 22. As Atherton attempted to travel a right hand curve in the roadway, the vehicle lost traction and slid across the opposite lane of traffic before striking a dirt embankment. The vehicle came to rest with the driver’s side rear wheel off the ground, tipping into traffic. Atherton and a rear adult passenger were both trapped in the vehicle due to its location and were removed by emergency personnel.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Atherton was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Police Arrest Intoxicated Man

Newtown Police report that at 4:06 pm June 23, officers were called to Newtown Stop & Shop, 228 South Main Street, for the report of an intoxicated man who had fallen, and was attempting to leave the scene in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, police detained Michael Santo, 60, of Danbury, and upon further investigation charged him with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and second-degree breach of peace.

Santo was released on a $500 bond with a court date of July 2 in Danbury Superior Court.

Hit Fallen Tree

Newtown Police report Michael Carchi Guzman, 21, of Danbury, operating a 2023 Toyota Rav4, was traveling westbound on Farrell Road at 7:29 pm June 24. Carchi Guzman hit a tree that had fallen in the roadway.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

A Newtown Police Department officer takes measurements while investigating a crash that closed a section of Hanover Road on Thursday, June 13, around 3 pm. Newtown Hook & Ladder and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps personnel also responded to the crash, which closed Hanover north of its intersection with Echo Valley Road. The crash was between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. The male operator of the motorcycle was transported to the hospital.
