To the Editor:

I wish to thank Beth Ford and all the staff at the Candlewood Valley Country Club. Candlewood is a public golf course in New Milford. In 2016, Beth Ford acquired two paramobiles at the course. The paramobile allows handicapped people to play golf. For information on the paramobile, search YouTube or the Stand Up and Play website.

I am eighty five years old and was diagnosed with progressive MS in 2010. When I learned the machine was at Candlewood Valley, I immediately went there. I have played the course for over eight years.

Last month, at the Main Street Rehab Facility in Danbury, my physical therapist, Deb Neeb, told me another MS patient wanted to play golf. Jeff is a young man (at my age almost everyone is young ) who had worked at Golf Digest. His MS was exacerbated by the Nile Virus and he was in a coma for five days. Jeff and I have been playing at Candlewood as I try to teach him to use the machine.

To all the folks at Candlewood, THANK YOU.

I will never forget your kindness and patience.

Paul R. Arneth

Southbury

Editor’s Note: A former Newtown resident, Paul’s story about learning to play golf with a paramobile has been shared in the pages of The Newtown Bee.
