A one-car crash claimed the life of a 27-year-old woman Thursday night in Sandy Hook.

Police, ambulance, and fire crews were dispatched to the area of 107 Berkshire Road around 8:20 pm April 20 after a vehicle reportedly went off the road and crashed through a utility pole before stopping. The crash occurred on Berkshire between that road's intersections with Sherman Street and Zoar Road.

A 2021 Subaru Impreza being operated by Jessica Bulfaro, 27, of Carmel, N.Y., was traveling east on Berkshire/State Route 34. The Subaru went off the west side of the state road and struck two utility poles, according to a report released Friday morning by Newtown Police Department.

Bulfaro was the only occupant of the vehicle.

First responders had to wait for Eversource to cut power before Bulfaro could be reached. As soon as a medic was able to access her, however, Bulfaro was pronounced deceased.

A medical examiner was also called to the scene.

The name of the victim was released Friday morning after next of kin had been notified, according to Newtown Police Sergeant Will Chapman.

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps were initially sent to the crash along with Newtown PD. Botsford Fire Rescue was added to the call soon after.

Berkshire Road was closed for hours while police investigated the crash and a replacement pole was installed.

The ambulance crew and Botsford firefighters remained on scene until just before midnight. Most Sandy Hook firefighters cleared from Berkshire Road at 12:05 Friday morning. One Sandy Hook engine and its crew remained on scene to provide lighting until approximately 1:45 am.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Newtown Police Sergeant Bart Lorancaitis, 203-426-5841 or bart.lorancaitis@newtown-ct.gov, with additional information.
