Wilfred Warner

Wilfred V. Warner, 87, of Newtown died December 7, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Babson Warner. He was born April 20, 1930, in Waterbury, son of the late John A. Warner and Minnie N. (Warner) Bergen.masonicare.org.

Mr Warner graduated from Wilby High School and was president of his senior class. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut and was a member of two engineering honor societies, Tau Beta Pi and Chi Epsilon.

After graduation, he was lieutenant jg with the US Coast and Geodetic Survey. He worked for the New Departure Division of General Motors in Bristol and then the Barden Corp in Danbury as chief application engineer and retired after 29 years.

While living in Heritage Village in Southbury, he served as treasurer of both the River Garden Association and the Library Association, and was treasurer of the Samuel Warner Association for more than 40 years. He was an avid gardener and UConn Huskies basketball fan. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, vacationing with his family in Rockport, Mass., traveling to Yorkshire with his wife, and dining at the Black Bull Pub.

Besides his devoted wife, Ruth, of 64 years; his four children, Chip Warner of Saco, Maine, Rick Warner of Southbury, Ben Warner, and his wife Claudia Allen, of Emmaus, Penn., and Susan Warner of Brewster, N.Y.; and his four grandchildren, Seth Warner, Magghie Warner, William Warner, and Nolan Warner survive him.

His brother, Ralph Warner, and sister, Elaine King, predeceased him.

A memorial service will be conducted at South Britain Congregational Church, 693 South Britain Road, Southbury, on Wednesday, December 13, at 2 pm.
