What Is Empathy?

DANBURY — A panel discussion, “What is Empathy? Who Feels It? Empathy in Humans and Other Animals,” will be presented at noon in Room 102 of Warner Hall on the Western Connecticut State University midtown campus, on Wednesday, October 3.

Associate Professor of Psychology Daniel Barrett, PhD, will lead a panel that will include Assistant Professor of Psychology Patricia O’Neill, PhD, and Jampa Gyaltsen, a Buddhist monk, in an open discussion about the nature of empathy and altruism in humans and other animals. The focus will be on theories and research in psychology and other areas that provide evidence for the existence (or absence) of empathy.

The discussion will be free and the public is invited.

Warner Hall is at the corner of White Street and Fifth Avenue. Call WCSU’s Office of University Relations, 203-837-8486, for additional information.
