Warrant

Police report that Vincent DiBernardino, 43, of 7 Lyrical Lane turned himself over to them on the night of December 16, and was charged with two offenses in connection with a complaint which was lodged on October 30.

Following an investigation into that complaint, police obtained a court warrant, resulting in them charging DiBernardino with second-degree harassment and second-degree breach of peace.

Police said they obtained the court warrant against DiBernardino following a complaint that he had been involved in a series of conflicts with a neighbor.

After processing the case, police released DiBernardino on $100 bail for a January 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court for arraignment on the two charges.

Vandalism Incident

Sometime between 1 and 5:30 pm on December 17, someone vandalized the driver’s window of a vehicle which was parked at the corner of Great Quarter Road and Berkshire Road (Route 34) in Sandy Hook, police said. The crime committed was second-degree criminal mischief, reflecting property damage exceeding $250 in repair value. Police ask anyone with knowledge of who vandalized the vehicle to contact Officer Charles Guernsey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Vehicle Damaged

Sometime between December 9 and December 11, someone damaged a vehicle which was parked in the driveway at 12 Queen Street, police report. Officer John McDermott is investigating the criminal mischief. Police ask anyone who knows who did the damage to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Volvo Crash

Motorist Cassandra Papagiannakis, 31, of Southbury was driving a 1995 Volvo 960 station wagon westward on a wet Bradley Lane about 9:41 pm December 13, when the vehicle slid on the pavement, went out of control and then struck a tree along the right road shoulder, according to police.

Papagiannakis was not injured. Police said they issued her an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Truck Hits Bridge

Police report a one-vehicle accident in which a commercial truck collided with the Housatonic Railroad’s low-clearance railroad bridge on Botsford Hill Road about 6:32 am December 14.

Trucker Larry Wonderly, 55, of Blanchester, Ohio, who was driving a 2006 Volvo tractor-trailer truck southward on Botsford Hill Road, encountered the underpass and the top of the truck’s cab struck the bottom of the bridge, according to police. The truck’s cab and the bridge received damage, police said.

Police said the area is posted with signs stating that the bridge has a low clearance of 11 feet, 5 inches.

Wonderly was not injured. Police gave him an infraction on a charge of failure to obey traffic signs.

DUI Incident

Police report that they observed motorist Lee Goodrow, 31, of Bethel parked with the front end of his unspecified vehicle on the property at 13 Main Street at about 9:48 pm December 17, so they investigated.

Police said they charged Goodrow with driving under the influence, making an improper turn, and driving with a suspended license.

After arrest processing, police released Goodrow on $100 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 5.

Pickup Spinout

Motorist Rudolph Pozek, 73, of 105 Poverty Hollow Road was driving a 2008 Nissan Frontier pickup truck westward on Wasserman Way, west of its intersection with Nunnawauk Road, about 12:14 pm December 13 during icy conditions, when the vehicle slid on ice, spun around and then struck some guardrailing along the westbound road shoulder, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Pozek for traveling too fast for conditions.

Icy Roadway

About 12:04 pm December 13, motorist Frank Zamfino, 76, of Derby was driving a 2003 Chevrolet westward on an icy Dodgingtown Road, when a noncontact vehicle which was in front of the Chevrolet, spun out on the ice, police report.

The Chevrolet then swerved to the left in attempting to avoid colliding with noncontact vehicle, resulting in the Chevrolet going out of control and striking some mailboxes and fencing at 33 Dodgingtown Road, police said.  

A passenger in the Chevrolet was transported to Danbury Hospital for a medical evaluation, according to police. Police took no enforcement.

Chrysler Vs Mazda

Police report a two-vehicle accident about 7:56 pm December 15 at 66 Church Hill Road, near the Blue Colony Diner parking lot.

Motorist Jacey Mattegat, 17, of 1 Sealand Drive, who was driving a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron convertible, was waiting to make a left turn out from the diner’s parking lot to travel westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Natalie Gish, 18, of Southbury was driving a 1999 Mazda Millenia sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, police said.

As the Chrysler attempted to make the left turn, the two vehicles collided, according to police. There were no injuries. Police issued Mattegat a written warning for making an improper turn.

Traffic Signal

At about 2 pm on December 9, motorist Jeffrey McGrath, 23, of 152 South Main Street, who was driving a 1996 Dodge Neon sedan, was stopped and waiting at a red traffic signal at the intersection of Mile Hill Road and South Main Street, police said.

McGrath’s foot then slipped off the Dodge’s brake pedal and Dodge rolled forward, striking the rear end of a stopped 2006 GMC Savanna van driven by Jim Sizemore, 23, of Naugatuck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned McGrath for following too closely.

Iced Road

Police report a minor two-vehicle accident on Wasserman Way during icy conditions about 1:25 pm December 13.

The accident involved motorist Bharat Bhalla, 80, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2001 Lexus ES-350 sedan, and motorist Andre Boucher, 52, of Danbury, who was driving a 2006 Subaru Forester, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Wintry Ice

A two-car accident occurred during icy conditions about 12:04 pm December 13 near 271 South Main Street, police report.

In that incident, northbound motorist Bernie Testani, 57, of 301 South Main Street, who was driving a 2003 Ford Taurus sedan, struck the rear end of a northbound 2009 Hyundai Sonata sedan driven by Douglas Parrish, 55, of West Lake Village, California, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Testani for traveling too fast for conditions.

DUI Charge

Police report that at about 12:13 am on December 19, they spotted motorist Todd Werden, 54, of 14 Founders Lane driving a Lexus RX-350 SUV eastward on Sugar Street. The Lexus swerved into the westbound lane before reentering the eastbound lane, police report.

Police said they stopped the vehicle to investigate, after which they charged Werden with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

Following processing, police released Werden on $100 bail for a January 6 court appearance on the charges.

Toddy Hill

Police said they stopped motorist Bernard Cino, 45, of 51 Pine Tree Hill Road at about 8:54 pm December 17, because he was driving a 2005 Dodge pickup truck faster than the posted speed limit on southbound Toddy Hill Road, near Clearview Drive.

After investigating, police charged Cino with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license. Police released Cino on a written promise to appear January 5 in Danbury Superior Court.

Jordan Hill Mishap

About 12:30 pm December 17, motorist Ryan Ecsedy, 22, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1994 Acura Legend sedan southward near 6 Jordan Hill Road, stayed as far to the right on that road as possible while a northbound noncontact vehicle was approaching, police said.

Ecsedy, however, then inadvertently drove into a flooded six-foot-wide pothole on the road, damaging his right-front tire, police said. Ecsedy was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Police said they called the town road department to make repairs to the road hazard.

Multiple Charges

While on patrol about 3:22 pm December 19, police said they spotted motorist Scott B. Meehan, 43, of 89 Church Hill Road drive through a stop sign at the intersection of Queen Street and Mile Hill Road, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Meehan with failure to obey a stop sign, driving with a suspended license, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police said that they then learned that Ridgefield police held an arrest warrant for Meehan on a charge of second-degree failure to appear in court stemming from original charges of driving while under suspension and driving an unregistered vehicle.

After processing, police released Meehan on $500 bail for a January 5 court appearance.

Highway Incident

State police report that an off-duty New Haven police officer, who was driving on Interstate 84, spotted Lansing Bennett, 19, of 7 Gray’s Plain Road driving an unspecified vehicle at high speed there, passing traffic in an unsafe manner. State police said that Bennett used multiple lanes of the highway and used the road shoulder while he was racing eastward with another vehicle on the highway late on the night of December 16.

State police said the off-duty officer followed Bennett until Bennett was stopped by Newtown police on the dead end Alder Lane in Sandy Hook. The driver with whom Bennett was racing on the highway was not located.

State police said they arrested Bennett on a charge of reckless driving for which he will be arraigned on January 4 in Danbury Superior Court.

Snowy/Icy

Motorist Timothy Cunningham, 26, of Houston, Texas, was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla sedan eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 6:50 am December 20, when the auto spun out on the snowy/icy roadway and struck some guardcabling along the left road shoulder, state police said.

Cunningham was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

I-84 Accident

State police report that motorist James Daniels, 51, of Waterbury was driving a 2002 Ford E-250 truck westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 10:40 am December 17, when he slowed for traffic conditions.

Westbound motorist Steven Osmolik, 18, of 277 South Main Street, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck, then struck the Ford from behind, police said.

Daniels reported pain due to the accident, but refused medical attention, state police said. State police issued Osmolik a written warning for following too closely.

Marijuana

Police report that while on patrol about 9:52 pm December 21, they stopped motorist Dana VanBuskirk, 20, of 18 Poverty Hollow Road near 28 Church Hill Road because of an apparent motor vehicle violation.

Police said that after stopping the unspecified vehicle, they had their German shepherd check it and the dog turned up some marijuana and a marijuana pipe.

Police said they charged VanBuskirk with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

After processing the case, police released VanBuskirk on a written promise to appear January 6 in Danbury Superior Court.
