To the Editor:

I am writing to ask for your support for the proposed senior center. As a concerned taxpayer, I have watched the issue of a new senior center come and go, without a resolution for our aging population.

The governing bodies in Newtown have created a resolution to bond $3 million for the building of a senior center. I am hopeful that because it is being proposed to be attached to the community center, that our longtime dream of a new facility will finally be realized. There are items, when building the community center, which are easily carried into the senior center - for instance, heating and air conditioning, possibly a shared kitchen, etc, to make the project cost effective.

We were given a beautiful gift from GE. The building of a community center will bring the community together, honoring the families. Adding the senior center to this site will show that the senior population is worthy of a facility that values and invests in its senior population. It's time to move forward as a community and recognize the needs of many. All too often, we are given opportunities that we end up not utilizing. Let's not let that happen this time. Please join me in voting Yes for the bonding for a new senior center.
