Newtown High School's girls' volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 19-25, 25-14) decision to Joel Barlow in the South-West Conference championship match, at neutral site Weston High, on November 4.

The second-seeded Falcons won the first two games before top-seeded Newtown forced a game four, but the Falcons closed things out before the match went to a winner-take-all game.

Barlow and Newtown split a pair of regular-season matches, with the Falcons winning the first meeting and the Nighthawks prevailing in the rematch - each squad winning on its home court.

Newtown will try to bounce back in the Class LL State Tournament. The Hawks are seeded eighth and have a first-round bye. They'll take on either ninth-seeded Glastonbury or No. 24 Wilton on Thursday, November 10, at home, beginning at 6 pm.
