WOODBURY — Ten skilled local artists, all members of Washington Art Association, will display a wide variety of paintings in the form of triptychs at Carol Peck’s Good News Café, August 7 through September 30.

The subjects, many of abstract composition, are compelling and diverse. Among them a garden pond with playful koi fish, a snowy morning, a serene study of the Newtown hills, a panoramic vista spread beneath a roiled sky, reflections on a woodland pond, as well as others that are feasts of color and design.

The artists include Ira Barkoff, Joanne Conant, Anne Marie Foran, Charlotte M. Honda, Kathleen L’Hommedieu, Kathleen Love Mooney, Ann Quackenbos, Roberta Shea, Karen Simmons and Wendy Walker. Ms Conant, Ms Foran and Ms Shea are all residents of Newtown.

A triptych is a series of three related paintings depicting a subject or a scene. Originally displayed in churches and featuring religious figures and events, they were hinged together vertically and used as altarpieces. When viewed as a single work of art the sections can provide a sense of movement, while enriching the image in three connected parts.

An opening reception for “Triptychs: Landscapes by 10 Artists” is scheduled for Sunday, August 11, from 3 to 5 pm. Refreshments will be served, and guests will have a chance to converse with the artists. 

Carol Peck’s Good News Cafe is at 694 Main Street South. Exhibitions may be viewed during restaurant hours, 11:30 am to 10 pm Monday and Wednesday through Saturday, and noon to 10 pm on Sunday.
