Town Players To Host Auditions

For ‘Caught In The Net’

Town Players of Newtown announces an open casting call for the fast-paced comic farce Caught in the Net by Ray Cooney, the sequel to Run for your Wife (produced at Town Players in 2000), on March 2 and 3. The auditions will be at The Little Theater, on Orchard Hill Road.

Taxi driver John Smith has been leading a hectic – but happy – double life with wife Mary and daughter Vicki in Wimbledon (London) and wife Barbara and son Gavin in Streatham for nearly 20 years. A chance Internet chat room meeting between the teenaged son and daughter threatens to tumble his precarious dual house of cards, and mayhem and hilarity ensue when John enlists the help of his friend Stanley Gardner to keep the two families from finding out about each other.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script. Director Pam Meister is not looking for English accents unless you come by yours naturally.

The cast consists of four men and three women. Breakdown is as follows (ages are approximate):

John Smith, an “ordinary but cheery” man in his 40s;

Barbara Smith, wife number one, in her 40s;

Gavin Smith, John and Barbara’s son, age 16;

Mary Smith, wife number two, in her 40s;

Vicki Smith, John and Mary’s daughter, age 15;

Stanley Gardner, John’s best friend and a tenant in the upstairs flat at the Wimbledon house, who is in his 40s. He’s a “good soul” but not terribly bright.

Dad, Stanley’s father, in his 80s. He fluctuates between senility, alertness and being foul-mouthed.

Auditions will be Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm, with snow dates of March 4 and 5 is needed.

Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings, May 1-17, with two Sunday afternoon matinees.

Stage hands and tech crew is also being sought for this production. Experience is helpful but not necessary; training will be provided. If interested, attend an audition or contact the theater.
