The two-week engagement will begin performances at Fairfield Theatre Company’s Studio Theatre on Thursday, January 20, and then run for 11 performances – through Sunday, January 30.

In 2003, Ms York performed The Loves of Shakespeare’s Women at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and in London. Michael Billington of The Guardian called the evening “as vivid a solo show as I have seen in some time,” and Daily Mail wrote, “Susannah York is giving a master class in Shakespeare’s women, revealing their souls in a selection of great speeches from all the major plays. She remains as vital, intelligent and attractive an actress as she was more than 20 years ago.”

The Loves of Shakespeare’s Women, conceived and adapted by Ms York, was inspired by John Geilgud’s solo show The Ages of Man. Familiar themes emerged when she delved into Shakespeare’s canon. She began to see a uniting thread in these women’s lives.

“I suddenly saw that love itself strings all these women together, from Juliet to Mistress Ford, Viola to Constance, Isabella to Gertrude, and from Portia to Cleopatra. Love in its many natures and objects,” said Ms York. “Yes, love is what strings these women on a single thread. Therefore, in The Loves of Shakespeare’s Women, I attempt to evoke these aspects of love as only he could express them.

“The pieces I have chosen to enact are each in their own ways beautiful, stunning or tragic. My goal is to reclaim the genius of Shakespeare’s words for a new generation of theatergoers.”

Following each performance, Ms York will autograph copies of a companion book to the show.

The performance schedule for The Loves of Shakespeare’s Women is Thursday through Saturday at 8 pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 3 pm. There will be a special performance and audience “talk-back” discussion on Wednesday, January 26, at 7:30 pm.
