The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC) will present the first season finale of The Flagpole Radio Café at the Edmond Town Hall Main Stage on Saturday May 30, at 7 pm. Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, who sponsors the event, announced this week that the season finale will be broadcast live over WPKN radio (89.5 FM).

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to broadcast the show on WPKN radio,” said NCAC Chairperson Jennifer Johnston. “We are very proud of our engaging variety show and this broadcast will introduce the show to a much wider audience in Connecticut and even Northern Long Island. It is our hope to bring new audiences to see The Flagpole Radio Café, and in turn, discover Newtown as an excellent destination location.”

Newtown singer and songwriter Daria Musk will return as the guest artist for the show. Daria, who performed at the premiere show last September, will be joined by her mother, Wendy Musk, who is also an accomplished musician and educator.

Additionally, the Grammy Award winning dobro player Stacy Phillips, also a past Flagpole Café performer, will be returning to the town hall for this weekend’s performance.

Tickets will remain $5 and $10, and reservations can be made online at NewtownArtsCommission.org. If further information is needed, call 364-0898.

“When work on The Flagpole Radio Café began a year ago, we strived to create a compelling variety show in the style of a radio broadcast that would prominently feature artists from Newtown and the surrounding areas and also spread the word about cultural events that take place all year long within our community,” said Ms Johnston. “To celebrate the end of the first season and because of the enthusiastic response of our audience, we are moving from the Alexandria Room to the Edmond Town Hall Theatre.

The Flagpole Radio Café is an ongoing variety show produced by Newtown residents Jim Allyn, Martin Blanco, Robyn Fitzgerald and Barbara Gaines, in conjunction with NCAC. Returning to the Flagpole Radio Café is music director Jim Allyn, musicians Howie Bujese, Rick Brodsky and Dick Neal, host and guitarist Chris Teske, and performers Martin Blanco, Barbara Gaines, Jennifer Rogers and David Wheeler.
