To the Editor:

The first Nighthawks Challenge was held at Newtown High School (NHS) on March 11, where Newtown teachers, faculty, and NHS students competed in a series of obstacles and challenges. The day included 80 competitors tackling a 35-foot- long inflatable obstacle course, a dance challenge, pie throwing (at brave NHS teachers), cupcake wars, blind-folded word scramble, and more. Community spectators enjoyed volunteer-supplied goodies at the concessions stand while laughing and cheering on 13 teams through fun-to-watch obstacles.

We would like to thank our sponsors; your financial support made the Nighthawks Challenge possible. Through your donations, NHS PTSA is increasing NHS Senior Scholarship and Classroom Grant Program funding; while NHS students will be voting on a cause to support.

Thank you:

Platinum Sponsors: Super Fun Inflatables, Northeast Implant & Oral Surgery, Newtown Center Pediatrics and Bogdan Family Dentistry.

Silver Sponsors: Associated Refuse Haulers, Newtown Smile Dentistry and Rankin Textile Printing.

Bronze Sponsors: Market Place Kitchen & Bar, The Toy Tree, My Place Restaurant, Berkshire Motors, LLC., D'Amico Family Foundation, Caraluzzi's Market, Sippin Energy Products, and Barre Boutique.

Supporters: Creative Music, Baum Braces, Cover Two, Dr McKenna, Ren Corporation, Nina Nail Spa, Newtown Hardware, Village Eye Care and Your Healthy Pet, Craig Doersch Painting, the Olam Family, and Pepsi.

To all who volunteered, this event would not have run smoothly without you.

Thanks to: Nathalie DeBrantes; MCs J Edwards and Nick Phelps; pie targets Trent Harrison and Larry Saladin; Jean Milano, Janice Gabriel, Michael Ornaf; NHS custodial staff (especially Jack, Clark, and Rick), Staci Stamm, and Deb Modzelewski: judges Ellie Daigle, Caroline Reichmann, Rory Tiesler, Victoria Moran, and Emma DaSilva.

Until next year - thank you! See you at the Second Annual Nighthawks Challenge.
