Tending Their Row

Representing Transition Newtown, Barbara Toomey handled the tender green leaves with care as she pressed young pepper and cabbage plants into the ground Thursday, June 20. She and Parks and Recreation Director Amy Mangold had help from Transition Newtown member Zachary Marmo, who graduated early from Newtown High School in December and will soon attend college. He added a cluster of tomato plants to row 41 — the Parks and Recreation/Transition team’s row.

Shortt’s Farm & Garden Center and Planter’s Choice nursery provided the plants now in place at The Victory Garden, which grows and provides produce to the FAITH food pantry in Newtown. All rows are tended by volunteer teams. Several of the 50 rows remain available. Learn more at FoodPantryGarden.org.
