Sydney Eddison Lecture, Reception

At Holcombe House, For Garden Club

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Garden Club of Newtown there will be a very special lecture by noted Newtown garden author Sydney Eddison followed by a tea reception and book signing.

The lecture will take place at 2:30 pm on Sunday, November 13, in the Olga Knoepke Memorial Room of Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown.

The reception and tea will follow at the Dana Holcombe Inn, at 29 Main Street.

Tickets are $20 each, and seating is limited.

Sydney Eddison brings to her popular lectures all the skills gained in more than twenty years of teaching drama. To her writing she brings the joy, enthusiasm and experience of a lifelong gardener.

Her gardens have been featured in magazines and on television’s Martha Stewart Living and The Victory Garden. She is the author of six books on gardening: Gardens to Go, The Gardener’s Palette, The Self-Taught Gardener, The Unsung Season, A Passion for Daylilies and A Patchwork Garden.

She has provided introductions to three photography books by Harold Feinstein, an introduction to Flora I, and she also wrote the introductory essay for Monet, The Gardener by Robert Gordon. She contributed chapters to Salad Gardens and Essential Tools, Brooklyn Botanic Garden handbooks in the 21st Century Gardening Series.

Ms Eddison writes frequently for Fine Gardening and other publications, lectures widely, and occasionally offers gardening tips on TV Channel 12. She continues to teach a few classes every year at the New York Botanical Garden, and also at The Institute of Ecosystem Studies.

Her lecture with slides for The Garden Club of Newtown will feature her most recent book Gardens to Go – Creating and Designing a Container Garden. Copies of her book will be available for purchase and signing at the tea and reception to follow.

Checks, which will serve as reservations for this event, must be received by November 4.
