Swim Team Defeats Bunnell, Falls To Masuk, Prepares For SWC Championships

Newtown High School's girls' swimming and diving team concluded the regular season with a pair of home meets this past week. The host Nighthawks defeated Bunnell of Stratford 98-54 on October 21 and dropped a 98-86 decision to visiting Masuk of Monroe on Senior Night, October 25.

The Nighthawks will begin the postseason with the South-West Conference championships; the diving competition is set for Wednesday, November 2, at Weston High, beginning at 5:30 pm, with the swimming events to take place at Masuk on Saturday, November 5, starting at 4 pm.

Against Bunnell, Newtown sealed the win after the 200 yard freestyle relay event and exhibitioned the final three races. Results from the Bunnell meet are as follows:

200 yard medley relay: 1. Mary Hufziger, Maddie Carter, Julia DiMartino, and Lianna Perazzo 2:04.67. 200 freestyle: 1. Emma Riebe 2:18.99. 2. Elsie Johnson 2:23.95. 200 individual medley: 1. Olivia Renkert 2:27.88. 2. Carter 2:28.14. 50 free: 1. Hufziger 25.74. 2. Keeley Baumann 31.59.
