Stuart M. Jansen

Stuart Mark Jansen, 60, of Newtown died November 28 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Virginia Kaye (Gevers) Jansen.

Mr Jansen was born March 27, 1940, in DePere, Wis., a son of the late Sylvester A. and Florence (DeBoth) Jansen. He was a graduate of St Norbert College in DePere with a BA in biology. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War, retiring as a captain. After returning from his service in the military, he worked for 25 years as a marketing research executive. Mr Jansen and his family lived in Wisconsin, Nebraska, and New Jersey before settling in Connecticut in 1979. The last few years, he was self-employed as a courier with the Pony Express in Danbury.

Mr Jansen was an avid sports enthusiast, enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered by all as a man with the most generous of hearts. He inspired those he knew with his selfless eagerness to help others.

He set an example through his encouragement, wisdom, and laughter that will continue to be emulated. His grandchildren will remember him as “the best Sunday morning breakfast cooker.”

In addition to his wife, Mr Jansen is survived by three sons, Jeffrey M. Jansen and his fiancee, Jennifer, of Newtown, Richard M. Jansen and his wife, Kim, of Homosassa, Fla., and Bryan M. Jansen and his wife, Michele, of Mahopac, N.Y.; two daughters, Jennifer K. Rose and her husband, George, of Bethel, and Renee K. Stuart and her husband, Jason, of Newtown; one brother, Neal T. Jansen of Edina, Minn; a great-aunt, Marian DeBoth of DePere, Wis.; four grandchildren: Ryan, Joshua, Ian, and Charlee; six step-grandchildren, Jared, Kimberly, Dean, Randy, Timmy, and Geoffrey; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, Friday, December 1, from 6 to 8:30 pm followed by a Remembrance Service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Norbert’s Chapel, DePere, Wis., on Monday, December 4. Burial will take place in Mt Oliver Cemetery in DePere.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr Jensen’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
