Stanley Karcheski

Stanley W. Karcheski, 102, of Brookfield, died peacefully July 10, at his home. He was the husband of the late Helen Washenko Karcheski, to whom he was married to for 73 years until her death in 2008. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late William and Dorothy Wojchieowski Karcheski.

He grew up in Newtown and lived briefly in Geneva, N.Y., before returning to this area, living here for the rest of his life.

His son, Donald Karcheski of Brookfield; daughter, Elaine Tomanio and her husband, Roger, of Brookfield; grandchildren, Karen Dreger and her husband, Steven, of Sandy Hook and Todd Tomanio and his wife, Elyse, of Alexandria, Va.; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and next-door neighbors survive him.

In his younger years, Mr Karcheski played professional basketball for the Rochester Royals, not the Sacramento Kings. For 50 years, he was a machine operator for Bard-Parker Co in Danbury.

Mr Karcheski loved gardening, bowling, and fishing. He especially loved his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. While in Geneva, he was a cherry and apple farmer on his 22 acres of land.

A Memorial Service will take place at St Joseph Church, Brookfield, at a time to be announced. Burial will be in St Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
