South Main Accident

Police report a two-car accident on southbound South Main Street, near the driveway leading to 85 South Main Street about 1:10 pm October 26. The collision involved a 2002 Hyundai Accent driven by Mindy Cleary, 18, of Woodbury, and a 1998 Honda Civic coupe driven by Starr Rell, 23, of Woodbury.  There were no injuries.

Drug Charges

A 14-year-old student was arrested and charged with two drug counts on the morning of October 25 at Newtown High School, according to police. Police did not disclose the student’s name due to state laws that shield the identities of people under 16 who are charged with crimes.

Police charged the youth with possession of marijuana and also with possession of marijuana with the intent to sell it. The youth was found to possess of nine bags of marijuana and a large sum of cash.

School officials were advised of the situation after other students had said that the juvenile had asked if they wanted to buy marijuana, police said.

Police transported the juvenile to the police station for booking on the charges, after which the juvenile was released into the custody of a parent. The youth is scheduled to appear November 5 in Danbury Juvenile Court to answer the charges.

Flying Eggs

An Obtuse Road man reported to police that someone at about 9:45 pm October 30 threw several eggs at his home, one of which broke a pane of glass in a storm window on the front of the house. Police are investigating the egg vandalism.

Mercury Vs VW

Motorist Aleksandr Mitropolskiy, 38, of Woodbridge, was driving a 1993 Volkswagen Passat northbound on South Main Street near Mile Hill Road about 12:12 pm October 30, when the Volkswagen was struck from behind by northbound motorist Helen Saren, 80, of 7 Sunnyview Terrace, who was driving a 1993 Mercury Sable, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Saren for following too closely.
