Soccer Teams Earn Wins

Newtown High School's girls' and boys' soccer teams both upended Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport on October 20. The girls were 9-1 winners at Treadwell Park, and the boys went on the road and prevailed 3-0.

In the girls' game, Sarah Houle scored twice, Makenna Cerney had a goal and two assists, and Sydney Howard added a goal and an assist. Keeley Kortze, Emma Curtis, Katie Sailer, Maddie Ziperstein, and Maddie Stites all scored, and Cassidy Kortze and Hannah Daly had assists.

The Nighthawks finish the regular season with an overall record of 11-2-3.

On the boys' side, Jack Vaughan scored with 18 minutes remaining in the first half, Francesco Pellic-cia scored his first goal of the season with 13 minutes remaining in the second half, and Aidan Ford scored on a penalty kick with nine minutes remaining in the game.

The NHS boys also blanked host Immaculate of Danbury 1-0 on October 19. Elliott Bennett scored with 31:41 remaining in the second half, and Jack Oltran had the assist.

Newtown carries a record of 7-3-4 into the final game of the slate, Tuesday, October 15, when Bethel visits Blue & Gold Stadium for a 7 pm start.
