SNAPSHOT: Tiffany Wolfe

Occupation: I work in the tax collector’s office. I’ve worked here for four years, and I worked here for three years before that as a summer helper. I became certified as a tax collector two years ago, after two years of schooling.

Family: My parents Valentine and Susan Wolfe just retired and moved from Newtown to the Finger Lakes Region of New York. I have a sister, Tara, and brother-in-law Shaun who are expecting their first child. My sister Karina and her husband, Charlie, have a 2-year-old son, Jameson, and are expecting their second child in May.

Pets: I have a cat named Kitty. She’s 15 years old, but acts like a kitten and terrorizes the household. Growing up, we always had birds — doves, lovebirds, and cockatiels.

How long have you lived in Newtown? My family moved here in 1989. I grew up here and graduated from Newtown High School in 2001. But I just moved to Woodbury two years ago.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love to read. On my lunch break, I always have a book. I like to walk. I live near Main Street in Woodbury, so it’s nice to just walk down the Main Street there. I also like to scrapbook and make cards.

Do you have a favorite author? I love James Patterson and Jodi Picoult. I also like Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich. I just finished James Patterson’s Cross Country and right now I’m reading Jodi Picoult’s Harvesting the Heart.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I like to go to my parents’ house on Lake Canandaigua in the Finger Lakes. It’s known as wine country, so we visit wineries and go to little fairs. They have a beach not far from their home, too.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I would say, interacting with the people. You get such a wide variety of people coming in here to pay taxes. I meet a lot of the elderly residents and they have some great stories to tell.

If you could spend a day with anyone, who would you pick? My grandfather, my mom’s dad. He died when I was 10 years old. But he was such a prankster and he used to tell us ways to prank our parents. I was so young when he died, that it would be fun to spend some time with him now that I’m older.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Start one day at a time. If yesterday was bad, you have a whole new day to start over.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? My boyfriend and I like to walk to the Dairy Delite in Woodbury. They make their own ice cream and it is so good. I like the German Chocolate Cake flavor, but they have a lavender ice cream in the summer that is really good. You’d think it would be weird, but it’s not.
