Occupation: I run Performance Foot and Ankle Specialists in Newtown. I am a podiatrist and have been a doctor since 1989. I personally have an interest in sports medicine within podiatry. I've worked with the Boston Marathon since my residency and have been one of the staff podiatrists since 1989 at the Boston Marathon. In 2012, I was honored to be invited to become the podiatrist for the New York Knicks for two years. From there, I went to work with a professional soccer team that's part of MLS [Major League Soccer] that the Yankees own called the NYCFC, which stands for the New York City Football Club. I've been with the team since its inception, and this is my fourth season.

Family: I grew up in Long Island, and my wife, Eileen, is from the Boston area. We've lived in Ridgefield since 1994, and originally when we were looking to buy a house, it was between Newtown and Ridgefield. I have three kids, Jordan is my oldest and goes to Purdue University; Richard is at Ridgefield High School and wants to go to Boston University, which he'll be doing a summer program for; and my daughter - who is my world - Abby is going to be heading to high school next year and is a competitive equestrian.

Pets: We have two dogs. Lady is half-German Shepherd, half-Doberman; and Max, we think, is half-rat terrier, half-border collie. We also have five chickens, no roosters. We just added Mocha the horse to our family, too.

How long have you worked in Newtown? I bought my practice in Newtown in 1996. I've had my practice in Waterbury since 1991, and I have dreams to expand the practice one more time, too.

What do you like to do in your free time? As a person who tries to stay fit, I enjoy weight training and anything athletic. I've been playing tennis for about a year, and I enjoy cycling. I'm also fanatical about sports cars. I've raced cars, taken Ferraris out in Italy, and taken cars out on the Nürburgring track in Germany. I also love comedy and used to be an amateur comedian. I want to write a comedy movie one day.

What is your favorite travel destination? Italy. I've been there two times. It has surpassed my dreams - the food, the culture, the beauty, the cars. It's an absolute fantasy.

What is the best part about Newtown? The strength of the people. There's a certain brotherhood and sisterhood in this town.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? Collectively, it's been my educators, of which there are too many to number, and my friends. Good teachers and good friends will tell you not only what you are doing right, but what you're doing wrong.

If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose and why? It would be with God. I'd want to understand not only us as humans, but to understand the person who invented us.

Who is your favorite musical artist? As far as I'm concerned, there is only one group that should be played on the radio: The Eagles. It's great music, and if you listen to the words, it's great poetry.

What is your favorite food? Eggplant Parmigiana and a bottle of Brunello.

What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given? Work hard, play hard.

Joel Segalman is this week's Snapshot profile.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Being a father to three of the greatest kids I could ever imagine.
