Occupation: I'm the Young Adult Librarian and Volunteer Coordinator at the C.H. Booth Library. I just started May 9, and it's been really fun. I like it a lot. Before this, I was doing the children and teen programming at the Brookfield Library. I'm getting my Master's of Library and Information Science through the University of Rhode Island in December. My undergraduate degree is in theater from Western Connecticut State University. I always knew I wanted to work with kids, and I had done some theater education freelancing and worked at a daycare.

Family: I'm an only child. My parents, Jim and Vickie, live in East Haddam, as does my mom's whole side of the family. My dad's side of the family is all spread out throughout the state.

Pets: I have a dog named Bowie. She's a terrier-mix and is pretty tiny. She's 2½ years old, and I've had her about a year. I adopted her through ROAR in Ridgefield, and they were great. She was the first dog that I met.

How long have you lived in Newtown? A little over two years. I had been living in Bethel before and had some friends here who I could rent from. I really love it here and am glad I made the move.

What do you like to do in your free time? It's a very cliché librarian answer, but I do like to do a lot of reading. I also like to watch TV, play a lot of board games, and start craft projects and not finish them. I do improv theater in the community, too. The most recent place I did that in was at TheatreWorks in New Milford.

Do you have a favorite book? My favorite book is always the last good book that I read, since I don't keep a favorite. The last good book I read was A Study In Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro. I read a lot of YA for work, but also just because I like it. The book is a Sherlock Holmes adaptation with two prep school kids. It's a series, so I'm excited to read the next one.

What is your favorite travel destination? The Tempest and got to see shows there, too. My favorite travel destination is Cape Cod. I used to go there every year growing up, so it's a nostalgic family vacation spot. The coolest place I've been is Edinburgh, Scotland. I went with WestConn, and they bring a group every couple of years to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We performed

The sense of community. Everyone really is looking out for each other. Also, people use the town services and are really active members of the community, which I think is exciting to see.

What is the best part about Newtown?

Who or what has been the greatest influence in your life? My parents. There is not a day that goes by where I don't say "Oh, that's a Jim thing to say" or "Oh, that's a Vickie thing to say." I am exactly both of their personalities.

If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose and why? Amy Poehler. I love her book, and I think she's so funny and smart. She just seems like a cool lady I'd like to spend time with.

Who is your favorite musical artist? I listen to a lot of show tunes, but I also like a lot of bluegrass Americana and pop music.

Do you have a favorite TV show? My current show that I'm in the middle of is Elementary, but my favorite show is Gilmore Girls. I even volunteered at the Gilmore Girls fan festival in Kent.

What is something you cannot live without? Good company with family and friends.

Abbey Lynch is this week's Snapshot profile.

What is your proudest accomplishment? It will be finishing school in December. That's my future goal.
