'Smokey Joe's Cafe,' Motown And More: Newtown Choral Society Spring Concert This Month

Newtown Choral Society will present music from Smokey Joe's Café, Motown, and jazz in the style of Manhattan Transfer on Saturday, May 13, when they perform their spring concert at Newtown Meeting House. T

he concert will begin at 7:30 pm.

Bob Nolte will be on percussion and Kurt Eckhart will lead a group of student musicians.

Under the direction of Mary Andreotta and accompanied by Susan Anthony-Klein, the choir will sing five Manhattan Transfer jazz greats, including "Tuxedo Junction," "Java Jive," "Operator," and "Ray's Rock House."

The concert will also include a medley of Jerry Stiller and Mike Stoller hits, with full length versions of "Hound Dog," "I'm A Woman" and "Jail House Rock."

Celebrating the almost 60 years of Motown hits, the program will include a medley of seven of the label's greatest hits, including "Dancing in the Streets," "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."

Admission is $10 for adults, and $8 for seniors and students.
