Sleep Apnea Can Be Treated

DANBURY — Sleep apnea is very common, affecting more than 12 million Americans, according to the National Institutes of Health. Untreated sleep apnea can cause high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disease, memory problems, weight gain, impotency, headaches and, left untreated, may be responsible for job impairment and motor vehicle accidents.

Fortunately, once sleep apnea is diagnosed, it can be treated.

Learn about the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea at the next Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meeting, “Rest Your Best — A Focus on Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome,” on Thursday, April 8. The program takes place from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Danbury Hospital auditorium, 24 Hospital Avenue.

Featured physician speakers will be David Oelberg, MD, medical director of the Danbury Hospital Sleep Disorders Center; pulmonary disease specialist Douglas Kahn, DO; otolaryngology surgeon Michael Bard, MD; dentist Leila Chahine, DMD; and Stuart Moses, a registered polysomnography technologist and registered respiratory therapist at the Danbury Hospital Sleep Disorders Center.

Frank Salvatore, manager of respiratory services and neurophysiology at Danbury Hospital, will facilitate the evening program.

Ample time will be provided for audience questions. Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meetings are free and open to the public. No RSVP is required. Park free in the Blue Visitor’s Parking lot located on Hospital Avenue
