Shirley North Pitcher, 89, previously of Southbury and Sandy Hook, died May 30, surrounded by her family. Born on September 7, 1927, in Torrington, she was the daughter of Madeline and Roy North.

She was the devoted wife of 52 years to the late James Ronald Pitcher. They raised their family in Sandy Hook and spent many happy years living in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, before rejoining their children and grandchildren back in Connecticut.

Mrs Pitcher had many passions, including all aspects of gardening, cooking, and baking for her family. She and Jim spent much time at their cabin in Vermont, and summers on Cape Cod and the coast of Maine.

The center of her world was her faith and family. She will be greatly missed by her children and their spouses, Mary and John Leibold of Newtown, Sherry and Tad Wheeler of Sherman, and Michael and Beth Pitcher of New Milford; and her seven grandchildren, Sarah Lopes, Amy Wheeler, Christopher Leibold, Kevin Leibold, Michelle Pitcher, Nicholas Pitcher, and Zachary Pitcher, who survive her. Her sister Barbara Smith predeceased her.

Calling hours will be on Friday, June 2, from 5 to 8 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 3, at 10 am, at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery in Sandy Hook.
