Schwenke To Offer Next Antiques Series Lecture

WOODBURY — The Glebe House Museum and The Gertrude Jekyll Garden will continue its fall antiques series “Evenings with the Experts” with a lecture concerning American Federal period furniture on Sunday, September 28.

Thomas Schwenke, who will present the lecture, is a nationally recognized antiques dealer and is widely considered a leading authority on American Federal period furniture.

Mr Schwenke has been an established dealer for over 30 years. He opened his first shop in 1970. From 1983 to 1989 he had a gallery on New York City’s Madison Avenue. In 1988 he organized and sponsored the “Bicentennial of American Federal Furniture” at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., working with more than 100 historically significant pieces from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Wadsworth Atheneum, other fine institutions and various private collections. Mr Schwenke has been located in Woodbury since the late 1980s. His devotion to American Federal furniture has led him to some of America’s most important antique shows where he is a frequent lecturer and exhibitor.

Thomas Schwenke Antiques is at 50 Main Street North in Woodbury. The lecture will begin at 5:30 pm.

The cost for the evening is $25. Tickets may be purchased at the door, but space is limited. Call Judith Kelz, education director at The Glebe House Museum, 203-263-2855.
