Scholarships Listed At NHS Career Center

The Newtown High School Career Center announced this week the arrival of three more scholarships available to qualified students.

Scholarship Grants for Prospective Educators/Phi Delta Kappa International – a minimum of 47 prospective educator grants will be awarded to high school seniors in March, 2000.  Forty-four $1,000, one $2,000, one $4,000 and one $5,000 grant will be awarded.  Criteria used to select the scholarship recipients include interest in a teaching or professional education career; academic achievement; letters of recommendation; written expression; and school and community activities.  Applicants should rank in the upper one-third of their class.  Application deadline is January 31, 2000.

American Fire Sprinkler Association/“2000 A.F.S.A. Scholarship Award” – two $500 scholarships available to any State of Connecticut high school senior.  Recipients will be determined by successfully entering the essay contest and answering the question, “Why should my school have fire sprinklers?”  Winners of the regional scholarship will automatically be entered in the National Scholarship Competition.  Deadline for completed applications is January 20, 2000.
