SCAN Artists In New Pond Art Show & Sale

REDDING — The  wonder and beauty of Connecticut’s New Pond Farm — from distant, rolling hills to closer barnyard scenes — spring to life in the imagination of some 50 regional artists whose will be included in New Pond Farm’s fourth invitational art show, “From Farm to Canvas,” June 1-16. In addition to the works being hung on the gallery walls, visitors will be able to browse through portfolios of agrarian and nature-themed artwork.

During the run of the exhibition, visitors can also take advantage of numerous workshops, demonstrations and special events.  Admission to the show and all events are free. A portion of all sales will benefit the award-winning educational center and its mission of connecting people to the land.

Among the artists represented in this year’s show are Vicki Bouffard, Anita Gregorski, Susan Jositas, Cindy Mazzaffero, Ruth Newquist, and Pam Reese, all members of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN).

Each day of the show, the public is invited to bring their art supplies and a picnic and paint en plein air on the inspiring grounds of the Farm. Participants at Paint and Picnic days will all be in a special raffle. 

A special preview party is scheduled for Friday, May 31, from 6 to 8 pm. Cost is $25 per person. Registration is requested and can be done here.

Workshops And Demonstrations

Saturday, June 1, 1-3 pm, Robert Sauber will lead a demonstration on “A Naturally Inspired Approach to Painting.”

Sunday, June 2, 1-3 pm, watercolor and ceramic artist Sally Aldrich will lead a watercolor workshop. Participants are asked to bring their own materials. All ages are welcome.

Wednesday, June 5, 4:30 pm, pastel artist and art educator Becky Holden will lead a one-hour pastel workshop for children. The workshop is for ages 6-12, is limited to 15 participants, and registration is required.

Friday, June 7, 9:30 am to noon, Adele Moros will lead a plein air painting session (rain date June 14).

Wednesday, June 12, 2-4 pm, Ms Moros will offer a watercolor demonstration during a President’s Tea, hosted by Sharon Coates.

Saturday, June 15, 2-4 pm, Catherine Elliott will offer an Impressionist painting demonstration.

In addition to these single day events, The Connecticut Pastel Society will sponsor two three-day workshops with artist Doug Dawson. Sessions will from from 9 am until 5 pm on June 17-19 and June 21-23.

These will be off-site workshops, taking place at Gilbert and Bennett School, 49 New Street in Georgetown. Cost is $400 ($375 for CPS members), and registration is required. Additional information about the workshops is available here, and registration information is available here.
