Roxbury Library Wins Award

 For Design Excellence

ROXBURY — Roxbury’s Minor Memorial Library has been named the winner of the Connecticut Award For Excellence in Public Library Architecture 2000. The award will be presented in April 2001 at the annual conference of the Connecticut Library Association in Waterbury.

The award marks the second time Minor Memorial Library has been honored since it opened in 1994, having won the Award of Excellence For Small Libraries in 1998. The architect for Roxbury’s library W.S. Herbert M. Noyes, Jr, AIA, of the Guilford-based firm Noyes*Vogt*Architects.

Sponsored by The Connecticut State Library, Connecticut Library Association, American Institute of Architects Connecticut, Friends of Connecticut Libraries, and Association of Connecticut Library Boards, the award recognizes outstanding architectural design and functional planning of public libraries built or renovated in Connecticut between 1994 and 1999.

Twenty-three libraries submitted their projects for consideration. A jury panel consisting of two librarians and two architects, all from out of state, reviewed and evaluated the spectrum of building styles and design solutions represented in the 23 projects.

“We are especially pleased for the people who use our library for the many services it offers and without whose support this latest recognition for excellence wouldn’t have been possible,” said Gloria Bevilaque, chairman of the board of trustees for Minor Memorial Library.
