Robert J. Braatz, Sr, 67, of Southbury, died suddenly at his home on July 16. Mr Braatz was born July 28, 1948, in Bridgeport, and was the beloved son of the late Carl O. and Geraldine (O'Reilly) Braatz.

He bravely served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired as Sergeant after decades of dedicated service to the Newtown Police Department.

He was an avid pool player, member of a bowling league, and enjoyed fishing, football, and golf. He was a die-hard Yankees fan.

Mr Braatz leaves behind the love of his life, Kathleen Braatz, of Southbury. He was a proud father of Robert J. Braatz, Jr, and his wife, Julia, of Lakehurst, N.J., Cynthia Braatz Hogg and her husband, David, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Melissa Braatz, of Newport, R.I., and Brittany Braatz Fuller and her husband, Benjamin, of Bethel; and cherished brother Dennis Braatz, of Southbury. He was a loving grandfather. He also leaves behind former wife, Lorraine Kiraly.

Calling hours will take place Friday, July 22, from 3 to 5 pm, at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury. Burial is private.
