Recruiting Seminar At Newtown High

Newtown High School’s Guidance and Athletic departments are offering an informational session on recruiting for NHS athletes on Thursday, October 1, at 7 pm in the NHS Lecture Hall.

Coach Wayne Mazzoni, a speaker and author of Get Recruited, will hold a seminar for student-athletes and parents to inform them of what they need to know about the college athletic recruiting process, including how to get colleges to recruit you, understanding recruiting rules, and determining scholarship potential.

Mazzoni is an assistant baseball coach at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield and a former collegiate athlete. He has spoken about the recruiting process at more than 150 high schools and guided hundreds of athletes involved in various sports.

“I get a tremendous amount of questions about the recruiting process from parents and student-athletes,” said Newtown High Athletic Director Gregg Simon, adding that the program will answer questions from the academic and athletic sides of recruiting.

The event is free to attendees and seating is limited. Those who wish to attend must fill out a registration form (available in the school’s guidance, main and athletic offices). Due to space constraints, only one parent may accompany a student. Registration forms should be returned to Simon or School Counselor Gerry Waterbury, in the guidance office, by Monday, September 28.
