Newtown police said that after learning that they held warrants for his arrest, a former resident came to the police station on January 24 and was charged with 186 counts of violation of a protective order.

Police said that William A. Bruno, 44, of New Haven came to the police station and was arrested on the charges, after which he was released on $100,000 bail for a January 27 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court. The 186 charges are felonies.

Police provided few details on the incidents that led to the charges, which were listed in two arrests warrants against Bruno.

One warrant listed one count based on an August 25, 2013, incident, and the other warrant listed 185 counts based on incidents that occurred from June 26 to August 26, 2013.

In court on January 27, Bruno did not enter pleas to the 186 counts. He was released on $100,000 bail on the 186 counts for a February 5 court appearance.

Also, Bruno has entered not guilty pleas to ten other charges that are pending against him in court.

Overall, he is free on $400,100 bail on the 196 pending charges.

Last August, police charged Bruno with one count of violation of a protective order.

In February 2013, after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Bruno, who then lived on  Borough Lane in Newtown, turned himself over to police at the police station and was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and with risk of injury to a minor through illegal sexual contact.

Police have said that those charges stem from their investigation into a complaint about an incident that occurred in June 2012. Police did not provide details about that incident.

In January 2013, police arrested Bruno on another warrant charging him with seven sex offenses for allegedly having had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl. The charges include second-degree sexual assault, first-degree possession of child pornography, risk of injury to a minor, and illegal sexual contact. 

Bruno is scheduled to appear in court on February 5 in connection with all 196 pending charges. Of the 196 charges, 195 charges are felonies.
