FATHERS’ NIGHT – next evening for Dads will be Monday, March 20 beginning at 7:30 PM.

Afterschool Programs For Middle School Students

PASSAGES – BEGINS MARCH 22

This popular, annual program is back again! Sessions will run for six Wednesdays from 4 to 5:30 pm and they are:

March 22 – “Celebrate Spring” presented by Cindy Walburg from Newtown Country Mill. Participants will leave with a floral gift perfect for a Passover or Easter gift. Fee is $15.00 which includes all supplies. Limit 15.

March 30 – “$$$ - How To Make The Most Of It” presented by Nancy Adams from Newtown Savings Bank. Come learn the various ways you can manage money earned from babysitting, yard work, allowance, etc.

April 5 – “Getting Off On The Right Foot” presented by the NHS Youth Advisory Board (YAB). Informational video presentation and discussions ranging from the various activities available and high school myths will be part of the program. Bring all your questions!

April 12 – “So, You Want To Be A Vet?” This program will be offered by Dr Neal Warner, Newtown Animal Clinic. We will tour the clinic and learn exactly what is involved in the day of a vet. Limit 10.

April 19 – “Sit, Stay, Down, Good Dog!” presented by Pam Kochuba, dog breeder and trainer. Come and work with various age dogs and learn what type of care each requires. Limit 10.

April 26 – “Less Is More” presented by Dale Meier and Katie Moser. We’ll talk about skin care products, hair care and appropriate make-up application. One lucky girl will receive a makeover. Limit 20.

All sessions, except the Newtown Animal Clinic, will be held at Newtown Youth Services. For further information or to register for any of these presentations, please call the NYS office at 270-4335.

Job Bank

Looking for a part-time job or need some extra cash? The NYS Job Bank may be able to help. Students 13 to 17 are welcome to fill out an application form. Please call Jessica Clark, Job Bank Coordinator, at 270-4335 for further information.

Community Events

LET’S PARTY! – “A Musical Extravaganza” featuring Newtown’s best-kept secrets of song, great food and plenty of dancing. Amazing auctionables.

Mark your calendar – Saturday, April 15, 7:30 pm at the Fireside Inn. This is a fundraising event for Newtown Youth Services. Tickets are $30 and available at NYS or Bob Tendler’s office. Please call the NYS office for info!

NYCAAP AIDS Benefit Talent Show – March 22 at the high school. Curtain is 7 pm and tickets are $3. NYS Talent Show Auditions will be held on March 28 and March 30 from 3 to 5 pm and April 3 and April 5 from 4 to 7 pm. Auditions will take place at NYS. The Talent Show is scheduled for Friday, May 12, 7 pm at the Newtown Middle School.

Youth Group Meetings

The High School Youth Advisory Board (HS YAB) will meet on Monday, March 27, at 6:30 pm.

NYCAAP will meet on Tuesday, March 7, at 5:30.

The Middle School Youth Advisory Board (MS YAB) will next meet on Wednesday, March 8 in the MS Teachers’ Lunch Room. The meeting will run from 8 to 9 am. Breakfast will be served!

New meeting schedule For MS YAB: In an effort to allow more students to attend YAB will vary our meeting days and times. Every third meeting will be a “Breakfast Meeting.” at 8 am and others will meet on Tuesday or Wednesday at 3:45. Please check this column or the YAB bulletin board for all information.

All programs will take place at Newtown Youth Services, 41-A Main Street (next to Town Hall), unless noted. For further information on any of the above programs, please call Newtown Youth Services at 270-4335.
