Newtown Prevention Council, Newtown Parent Connection and Newtown Youth & Family Services are co-hosting a Wednesday, March 23,

presentation at Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen Street, at 6:30 pm, on "Drug and Alcohol Trends Facing Today's Youth."

The presentation will help attendees understand new state drug regulations addressing marijuana and newer synthetic drugs, identify current and emerging trends in alcohol consumption and marketing, and review warning signs of use through terminology, hands-on product demonstrations, and signs of intoxication.

Newtown Youth & Family Services is also supporting the program, and the presentation will be by the Newtown Police Department, with sergeant Matthew Wood giving the presentation.

Superintendent of Schools Joseph V. Erardi, Jr, sent an e-mail to district parents on March 11 saying, "I am combining my community forum with this important presentation. It is my hope that you will be able to attend to learn about what is facing today's youth and also to have any questions you may have answered by the highly skilled presenter."
