DUI Warrant

Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest, Patrick Capozziello, 20, of 42 Cedar Hill Road went to the police station on the afternoon of December 23 and was charged with driving under the influence and with failure to obey a stop sign in connection with an accident that had occurred almost one year earlier in Hawleyville on December 27, 2013.

In that 2013 accident, Capozziello was driving an auto which was involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer truck on Mt Pleasant Road, near Saw Mill Road. Capozziello needed to be extricated from the wreckage by volunteer firefighters, after which he was transported to the hospital. Following arrest processing last week, police released Capozziello on a written promise to appear for arraignment on January 6 in Danbury Superior Court.

Sandy Hook DUI

Police said that while on patrol about 7:20 pm on December 23, they spotted motorist Benjamin Deseingalt, 24, of 45 New Lebbon Road driving erratically on Church Hill Road, after which they stopped him on Glen Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Deseingalt with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. After processing the charges, police released Deseingalt on $200 bail for a January 8 arraignment in court.

AC Unit

On the morning of December 18, police learned that someone at an unknown time had stolen a central air conditioning compressor unit from a property on Pearl Street, near its intersection with Charlie’s Circle. Police are investigating the theft and ask anyone with information to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Rollover Crash

At about 4:15 pm on December 23, motorist Louis Reed, Jr, 37, of Bridgeport was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV westward on Berkshire Road, between its intersections with Zoar Road and Sherman Street, when the vehicle went off the right road shoulder, struck a rocky embankment and then reentered the roadway, rolling over multiple times, before coming to rest up against an embankment.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Reed to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Reed received an infraction for making a restricted turn, police report.

South Main Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident near 76 South Main Street about 8 am on December 17. The collision involved motorist Christian Meeske, 37, of Monroe, who was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Express van, and motorist Mary Novacco, 52, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Novacco an infraction for passing on the right.

Church Hill Crash

At about 4:30 pm on December 19, motorist Nicole Gindraux, 21, of 15 Whitewood Road, who was driving a 2005 Saab 9-3 sedan, was attempting to exit a driveway at 47 Church Hill Road as motorist Anthony Mason, 29, of 50 Deep Brook Road was driving a Ford F-350 pickup truck westward on Church Hill Road, police report.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Gindraux received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, according to police.

Mail Theft

Police reported on December 24 that some thefts of mail from curbside residential mailboxes had occurred. Police urge that residents remove delivered mail from their mailboxes as soon as possible. Also, police urge residents to report to them any suspicious activity witnessed involving the mail.

Attempted Burglary

At 6:46 pm on December 24, police responded to a residence on Watkins Drive on a report of a burglar alarm having been triggered. An investigation at the scene indicated that someone had attempted to gain entry into a condominium, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer William Crone at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Vandalism

Sometime overnight on December 22-23, someone intentionally smashed the windshield on a motor vehicle parked outdoors near the turnaround area at the end of Juniper Road, police report. Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station.

Big Y Incident

Police report that they were called to the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street about 12:17 pm on December 28 after store staff had taken an alleged shoplifter into custody. Police said that Aaron Cooper, 28, of Danbury had attempted to conceal about $425 worth of teeth whitening strips and razor blades in a coat before attempting to leave the store.

Police said they charged Cooper with sixth-degree larceny. Also, police charged Cooper on warrants with first-degree failure to appear in court and with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with past incidents.

Police said they Cooper on $7,750 bail overall for a December 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

SUV Off Road

Motorist Vito Dionisio, 81, of 58 Toddy Hill Road was driving a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner SUV southward on South Main Street and was then attempting to turn left onto eastbound Mile Hill Road at about 6:16 pm on December 17, when he made too wide a turn and then traveled off the right side of Mile Hill Road, entering a ditch.

There were no injuries. Dionisio received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.

Multiple Charges

Police said that at 11:23 am on December 24, they responded to a report of a three-vehicle accident near 301 South Main Street, in which one of the vehicles involved in the crash had left the scene. While responding to the incident, police spotted the vehicle reported to have left the scene and stopped it, police said.

The collision involved motorist Nicholas Szustecki, 28, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2014 Hyundai Accent sedan, motorist Ross Carley, 69, of 66 Currituck Road, who was driving a 1999 Honda CRV, and motorist William Jacquemin of New Milford, who was driving a 2013 Mazda CX-5, police report. Carley received injuries in the accident, police said.

After investigating, police charged Szustecki with evading responsibility, driving without a license, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, and failure to drive to the right. Szustecki was released on $20,000 bail for a January 6 court appearance.

Berkshire Collision

At about 8:50 am on December 23, motorist Rajesh Gangadhar, 40, of Hamden, who was driving a 2012 Jeep Patriot SUV westward on Berkshire Road near Sherman Street, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Sandy Toussaint, 32, of Hamden, who was driving a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Toussaint for following too closely.

Toyota Crash

Police report that at about 9:30 pm on December 15, motorist Michelle Jimenez of Danbury was driving a 2008 Toyota Yaris westward on Berkshire Road, near High Rock Road, when she lost control of the auto and struck some guardrails. There were no injuries. Jimenez received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions, police said.

BMW Accident

Motorist Darren Thompson, 36, of Bridgewater was driving a 1995 BMW 325-IS coupe near 228 South Main Street about 6:30 pm on December 26, when he veered off the southbound lane and struck some guardrails, police report. Thompson was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction for making a restricted turn.

South Main Street

At about 2:20 pm on December 24, motorist Ashley Fulton, 19, of Bridgeport was driving a 1998 Nissan Maxima sedan southward on South Main Street, when motorist Matthew Vitti, 21, of 14 Appleblossom Lane, who was driving a 2004 Honda CRV, pulled out from Appleblossom Lane onto South Main Street, resulting in a collision, police report. Vitti received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Hawleyville Collision

A three-vehicle collision occurred on westbound Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with saw Mill Road, about 2:50 pm on December 23. Motorist John Henshaw, 63, of North Salem, N.Y., who was driving a 2007 Saturn Ion sedan, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Erica Mirochnik, 33, of Monroe, who was driving a 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan, stopped behind the Ion, police said.

Westbound motorist Diane Royal, 63, of Bethel, who was driving a 2000 Saturn SW-2 station wagon, then struck the rear end of the Odyssey, pushing the Odyssey into the rear end of the Ion, police said. Volunteer ambulance corps members transported Royal to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said. Royal received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Subaru Damaged

Police report that sometime on December 23, an unknown motorist driving an unknown vehicle struck and damaged a parked unoccupied tan Subaru Legacy, which was parked in the rear lot near Ricci’s Salon at 99 South Main Street. Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with knowledge on the matter to contact Officer Adam James at the police station.

Botsford Intersection

At about 8 am on December 23, motorist Stephen Paproski, 65, of 40 Sugar Lane was driving a 2004 Ford F-350 pickup truck eastward on Meadowbrook Road, as motorist Paul Laaksonen, 53, of 10 Avalon Way was driving a 2008 Toyota Prius westward on Botsford Hill Road, police said. Meadowbrook Road and Botsford Hill Road meet with South Main Street at a four-way intersection.

While the Ford was then attempting to make a left turn to enter northbound South Main Street, the Ford and the Toyota collided, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they gave Paproski a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Interstate DUI

State police report that following a one-vehicle accident that occurred on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, at about 7:25 pm on December 24, they investigated and then charged motorist Christopher Parsons, 28, of Farmington with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

There were no injuries. After he posted $500 bail, state police released Parsons for a January 12 court appearance.

Burglary/Larceny

Sometime between November 20 and December 29, someone illegally entered a house on Dogwood Terrace and stole copper piping from within, police said. Police learned of the incident on December 29 and are investigating. Police ask anyone with knowledge on the matter to contact investigating Officer Michael Caramadre at the police station.

Library Lot

At about 3:20 pm on December 29, police learned that an older model Pontiac Vibe compact hatchback, which has a shattered tail lamp and some possible rear-end damage, was involved in a collision in the rear parking lot at Booth Library at 25 Main Street. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer Adams James at the police station, telephone 203-426-5841.

Police report that at about 3 pm on December 29, motorist Malcolm Dance, 17, of 188 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee SUV southward on New Lebbon Road, south of that road’s intersection with High Rock Road, when the vehicle traveled off the right road shoulder, struck a tree and then rolled over onto its roof, landing in the middle of the road. Botsford and Sandy Hook firefighters responded. Police said Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Dance to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The accident is under investigation.
