DUI Charge

Police report that at about 9 pm on July 4, they spotted a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV swerving as it traveled northward on Mt Pleasant Road, striking the curbing twice as it went, so they stopped motorist Christopher Nostrand, 27, of Kingston, N.Y., to investigate near the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Mt Pleasant Terrace.

After investigating, police charged Nostrand with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. Following processing, police released Nostrand on $250 bail for a July 18 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

DUI Case

Police report that at about 11 pm on July 4, they stopped motorist Claudio Roberto Rocha-Dasilva, 48, of Danbury, on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, to investigate because he had been driving erratically and had almost struck several vehicles.

Police said that after investigating, they charged Rocha-Dasilva with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Following arrest processing, police released Rocha-Dasilva on $100 bail for arraignment on the charges on July 18 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

DUI Arrest

Police report that they conducted a traffic stop at about 1:45 am on July 2, after they spotted traffic violations by a westbound motorist driving a BMW 528-XI on Mt Pleasant Road, east of Reservoir Road,

After investigating, police charged motorist Charlene Williams-Dumas, 47, of South Norwalk with driving under the influence and with failure to maintain the travel lane. After processing, police released Williams-Dumas on $500 nonsurety bail for a July 18 appearance on the charges in state Superior Court in Danbury.

DUI Incident

At about 10:54 pm on July 1, police said they conducted a traffic stop on Pearl Street to investigate a motorist whose vehicle had nonfunctioning brake lamps.

Police report that after investigating, they charged motorist Rodrigo Montalvo, 19, of Newtown with driving under the influence and with a brake lamp violation. After processing, police released Montalvo on $100 bail for a July 18 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Jeremiah Crash

Motorist Tyler Hall, 21, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2004 GMC Envoy SUV southward near 15 Jeremiah Road at about 5:53 am on June 30, when while negotiating a curve in the roadway, the GMC went off the right road shoulder, struck an embankment and then hit some trees.

Police said that Hall told them that the vehicle lost its steering before the crash. There were no injuries.

Police report they charged Hall with reckless driving and with making a restricted turn.

Warrant Executed

Police said that at about 6:23 pm on June 30, Brian Adams, 36, of Newtown went to the police station to report to police a possible case of identity theft.

In the course of checking Adams' driver's license, Newtown police learned that there was a pending arrest warrant for Adams on a charge of failure to respond to an infraction, in connection with an incident in New Haven, in which Adams received an infraction for simple trespassing from Yale University Police on January 1.

Thus, Newtown police charged Adams with failure to respond to an infraction, after which they released him on $92 bail for a July 18 court appearance.

Tractor-Trailer Truck

State police report a collision at highway speeds involving a 2018 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck and a 2004 Toyota Corolla compact sedan on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, about 7:02 pm on June 29. The crash occurred in light traffic on dry roads.

In a triple-lane area, trucker Casey Spruiell, 34, of Elizabethtown, Ky., was driving the Freightliner in the left lane, and motorist Daniel Salomao, 17, of Danbury was driving the Toyota in the center lane.

The Toyota then attempted to enter the left lane, but in doing so the Toyota struck the truck's tractor, causing the Toyota to spin counterclockwise on the highway in front of the traveling truck.

The truck then pushed the sedan forward for about 150 feet before the vehicles came to rest, state police said. The truck and the sedan each carried one passenger. There were no injuries. State police issued Salomao an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Kia Vs Kia

At about 2:45 pm on June 26, motorist Mary Picilio-Haggerty, 57, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2017 Kia Sportage SUV on eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of the Hanover Road overpass, slowed to a stop for heavy stop-and-go traffic, after which the Sportage was struck from behind by a 2012 Kia Forte driven by Todd Busbee, 32, of Southington, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Busbee for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Interstate Crash

State police report that at about 7 pm on June 26, motorist Kyle McLaughlin, 26, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2009 Acura TSX sedan eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, struck the rear end of a 2015 Ford van driven by Hyong Nan Browning, 61, of Arlington, Texas.

There were no injuries. McLaughlin received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to state police.

SUV Rollover

Motorist Edward Simon, 37, of Danbury was driving a 2017 Ford Explorer SUV on the Exit 11 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84 at about 10:05 pm on June 26, when the Ford went off the left road shoulder, struck some guardrailing and then rolled over, landing on the roadway, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police issued Simon an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Rear-Ender

While traveling on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, at about 4:30 pm on June 25, motorist Kathryn Barlow, 34, of State College, Penn., who was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion, struck the rear end of a 2017 Subaru WRX driven by S. Rodriguez, 26, of Elizabeth, N.J., which had slowed due to heavy traffic, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Barlow was following too closely.

Evading Responsibility

Police are investigating an incident that occurred overnight on June 24 to June 25, in which a motorist damaged some guardrailing and then left the scene of the crash without reporting the collision.

Based on evidence at the scene of the crash near the intersection of Old Green Road and Horseshoe Ridge Road, the driver of a dark gray 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee smashed into some guardrailing.

Thus, that vehicle has some front-end damage, as well as damage to its right-front fender area, police said.

The vehicle probably is showing bare metal in the area where its paint was scraped off its body panels by the impact. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
