Warrant

Police report that on the morning of July 26, they arrested Luis Galindez, 47, of New Britain, on a warrant, charging him in connection with a May 8 incident that occurred at Walgreens Pharmacy at 49 South Main Street.

Police said they arrested Galindez on charges of second-degree forgery and criminal attempt to possess a controlled substance (narcotics). Galindez was held on $10,000 bail for arraignment that day on the charges in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Multiple Charges

Police report they made a traffic stop on Walnut Tree Hill Road, near Acorn Drive, about 12:02 pm on July 25 to investigate.

After investigating, police charged motorist Meghan Freeman, 34, of Sandy Hook with failure to keep a marker plate readable, driving with a suspended license, sixth-degree larceny by shoplifting, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Freeman posted bail and was released from custody for an upcoming court appearance.

Sandy Hook Collision

About 9:17 am on July 24, motorist Stephanie Johnson Carson, 47, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2011 Honda Pilot SUV northward on Bradley Lane, stopped at a stop sign at Bradley Lane's intersection with Berkshire Road, police said.

Motorist Neal Berko, 58, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2017 GMC Sierra pickup truck westward on Berkshire Road, then attempted to make a left turn to enter Berkshire Road, but struck the Honda.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Berko a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Arrest Warrant

Police report they were called at about 5:23 pm on July 23 to investigate a dispute at a Sandy Hook residence.

In connection with that investigation, police said they learned that Austen Davelaar, 28, of Sandy Hook had an arrest warrant pending against him. Police then charged Davelaar on that warrant with second-degree failure to appear in court. That charge stems from his May 12 arrest by Naugatuck police on a charge of sixth-degree larceny. After processing, police released Davelaar on $2,000 bail for an August 1 appearance in state Superior Court in Waterbury.

Police report that after investigating the dispute, they charged Davelaar with second-degree reckless endangerment and with disorderly conduct. After processing, police released Davelaar on $5,000 bail on those charges for a July 24 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Multiple Charges

State police report that they saw a motorist driving a Toyota Corolla recklessly on westbound Interstate 84 about 6:10 pm on July 22, so they stopped the driver to investigate.

State police said they charged motorist Christopher Walker 22, of Danbury with driving under the influence, failure to carry a driver's license, driving under suspension, reckless driving, possession of narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Also, state police report they charged passenger Shalisa Jones, 22, of Danbury with possession of narcotics, interfering with police, and refusal to be fingerprinted.

Walker posted $2,000 bail and was released for an August 3 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Jones was held on $1,500 bail for a court arraignment on July 24. In court, Jones pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released from custody on written promise to appear in court on August 21.

Interstate Crash

About 9:21 pm on July 22 on eastbound Interstate 84, motorist Justin Bloom, 35, of Monroe, who was driving a 2012 GMC Acadia SUV, attempted to change travel lanes in a trilane section of the highway, but struck motorist Bryan Lacoutoure, 30, of Southbury, who was driving a 2015 Subaru Legacy sedan, state police said. There were no injuries.

Bloom received an infraction for making an unsafe lane change.

Evading Responsibility

Police report that at about 9:24 am on July 21 on Mt Pleasant Road, near Saw Mill Road, a white 2009 Chevrolet Traverse SUV struck the rear end of a 2016 Honda CR-V SUV that was carrying four people. The Chevrolet then drove away from the crash, heading onto Saw Mill Road.

Police said the Chevrolet has Vermont marker plates. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported two people in the Honda - a one-month-old baby and a 48-year-old woman - to Danbury Hospital for treatment of possible injuries.

Police are investigating and ask anyone who knows the identity of the Chevrolet driver to contact Officer Stephanie Thibodeau at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Mazda Damaged

Sometime between 10 am and 4 pm on July 21, a 2016 Mazda 6 sedan, which was parked in a commercial parking lot at a retail center at 99 South Main Street, was damaged when an unknown motorist driving an unknown vehicle struck the rear end of the Mazda, damaging it, according to police. The unknown driver then left the scene.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Across The Highway

At about 11:25 am on July 21, trucker Francisco Rodriguez, Jr, 32, of South Hadley, Mass., was driving a 2017 International truck westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, as trucker Guillermo Rodriguez, 59, of Elizabeth, N.J., was driving a 2011 Mack truck eastward there, state police report.

Due to mechanical failure, the left-side tires on the front axle of the trailer being hauled by the Mack fell off the vehicle, state police said. One of those tires then rolled across the highway's median divider and struck the westbound International, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said they took no enforcement because the incident was due to a mechanical failure.

Rear-Ender

Amid heavy traffic on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, at about 8 am on July 20, motorist Kim Winchell, 63, of Ivoryton, who was driving a 2013 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, stopped and was then struck from behind by motorist Nambi Shreeni, 61, of Manchester, who was driving a 2006 Honda Accord, state police report.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Intersection Collision

Police said motorist Erin Catapano, 37, of Stratford, who was driving a 2017 Volvo XC-60 auto, was traveling southward on Elm Drive and then stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with South Main Street at about 5:54 pm on July 20, after which motorist Miles Carter, 19, of Newtown, who was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt southward on South Main Street, attempted to make a right turn onto Elm Drive.

In attempting that maneuver, the Chevrolet struck the Volvo. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Carter for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Center

Motorist Kimberly Friedrich, 23, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2008 Hyundai Elantra auto, was exiting the driveway from the parking lot behind 100 Church Hill Road, as motorist Carol Ann Bennett, 71, of Sebastian, Fla., was driving a 2003 Honda Accord westward on Church Hill Road at about 6:12 pm on July 20, police said.

The Hyundai made a left turn on westbound Church Hill Road and struck the Honda. There were no injuries.

Police issued Friedrich an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Queen/Church Hill

At about 6:31 pm on July 20, motorist Steven Bertrand, 64, of Newtown, who was driving a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis sedan northward on Queen Street, stopped in traffic near the traffic signal at the intersection of Queen Street and Church Hill Road, police said.

Northbound motorist Amanda Brickner, 21, of Newtown, who was driving a 2009 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, then struck the rear end of the Mercury. There were no injuries.

Police report they issued Brickner an infraction for following too closely.

Pocketbook Found

Police report that on the morning of July 19, a town employee found a green canvas pocketbook in a parking lot near Primrose Street at Fairfield Hills. That lot is located between Newtown Municipal Center and NYA Sports & Fitness. Police said the pocketbook has a brown strap and a brown-plaid interior.

Police are holding the item for safekeeping. The owner of the pocketbook, who is able identify its contents, may retrieve it at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

I-84 Chain-Reaction

During heavy traffic conditions on eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of Exit 9, at about 3:25 pm on July 19, motorist Catherine Elder, 60, of Staunton, Va., who was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion, stopped, state police said.

Motorist Carl Wallace, 67, of Torrington, who was driving a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, then stopped behind the Ford, according to state police. Motorist Ibrahim Mahmoud Sheikh-Nabi, 36, of South Windsor, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Camry sedan, then struck the rear end of the Hyundai, pushing the Hyundai into the rear end of the Ford.

The three vehicles came to rest on the highway's median. There were no injuries. State police said they issued Sheikh-Nabi an infraction for following too closely.

Auto Accident

At about 9:57 am on July 18, motorist Ramzi Hanania, 57, of Milford, who was driving a 2004 Ford Econoline van northward on South Main Street, near Wills Road, was stopping due to traffic conditions, after which the Ford was struck from behind by northbound motorist Noelle Gentile, 27, of Dover Plains, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla sedan, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Gentile an infraction for following too closely.

Toyota Vs Land Rover

Police report that at about 9:12 am on July 18, motorist Anne Wright, 59, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2011 Land Rover SUV northward on South Main Street, near Wills Road, was stopping for traffic conditions, after which the Land Rover was struck from behind by northbound motorist Rachel Roberto, 31, of Monroe, who was driving a 2015 Toyota Camry sedan.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Roberto an infraction for following too closely and for a vehicle registration violation.

DUI Warrant

State police report that they served an arrest warrant against Richard Caruso, 45, of Brookfield at his home on July 18 in connection with Caruso's one-vehicle accident that occurred on westbound Interstate 84 near Exit 9 in Hawleyville on March 11.

State police said they charged Caruso with driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, driving under suspension, and failure to drive in the proper lane. Caruso posted $1,000 bail and was released for an August 1 court appearance, state police said.

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Church Hill Road in front of Newtown Mobil about 12:56 pm on July 25. Motorist Patrick Mullins, 53, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2001 Subaru Outback SUV westward on Church Hill Road, as motorist Jared Pearson, 19, of Newtown was driving a 2014 Audi Q-5 SUV eastward there. As the Subaru then attempted to make a left turn to enter the Mobil station, the two autos collided. The Audi then drove off the road, struck a rock, and hit a utility pole. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated and released both drivers at the scene. Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters went to the incident. Police said they issued Mullins an infraction for making a restricted turn. (Bee Photo, Hicks)
