Drug Charges

Police report they responded to a civil matter at a Sandy Hook residence about 7:50 pm on February 12, and then investigated, resulting in them finding an unspecified amount of marijuana there.

Police then charged Gracee Piazza, 19, of Sandy Hook with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and also with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police released Piazza on a written promise to appear on February 27 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

SUV Rollover

Police report that motorist Paul Buechelmaier, 59, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Outback SUV on Obtuse Road, near its intersection with Currituck Road, at about 9:57 pm on February 12, encountered a patch of ice on the roadway. The vehicle then went out of control, spun about, and rolled over, landing on its roof.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Buechelmaier for traveling too fast for conditions.

Audi Off Road

Motorist Elizabeth Simms, 16, of Newtown was driving a 2009 Audi A-6 auto westward on a snowy Castle Hill Road, near Pumpkin Lane, about 11 pm on February 9, when while traveling downhill, the vehicle went out of control, struck a curb, went off the road, climbed a bank, went down into a ditch, and came to rest against a tree, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Simms an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.

DUI Arrest

Police report they received a call about 7:20 pm on February 9 informing them that a vehicle was traveling erratically northward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Laurel Road, so they responded to investigate.

Police said they found the vehicle in question - a 2012 black BMW 528-XI auto - traveling slowly and crossing the road's center lines on Mt Pleasant Road, so they stopped it to investigate. Police charged motorist Tracy Young, 52, of Danbury, with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. After processing, police released Young on $100 bail for a February 27 court appearance.

Oldsmobile Vs BMW

At about 3:50 pm on February 8, motorist Gary Escoda, 57, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1998 BMW Z-3 sports car westward on Church Hill Road, stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto Walnut Tree Hill Road, police report. Eastbound motorist Melanie Yacko, 32, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan, then struck the rear end of the BMW.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Yacko for following too closely and also gave Yacko an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Exit 9 Accident

State police report that motorist Valerie Ingham, 60, of Newtown, who was driving a 2010 Ford Fusion sedan, stopped at the stop sign at the end of eastbound Interstate 84's Exit 9 off-ramp at about 4:16 pm on February 8, after which motorist Melissa Gardiner, 37, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2011 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, stopped behind the Ford.

The Ford then moved forward, after which the Toyota moved forward and struck the rear end of the Ford. There were no injuries. State police issued Gardiner a written warning for unsafe movement from a stopped position.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Susan Gouveia, 50, of Trumbull, went to the police station on the evening of February 8 and was charged with evading responsibility and with making a restricted turn, according to police.

Police said the charges stem from an October 2017 incident near Tambascio's Italian Grill at 1 Dodgingtown Road (Route 302) in Dodgingtown, in which the vehicle that Gouveia was driving allegedly collided with another vehicle and then left the scene.

After arrest processing, police released Gouveia from custody on a written promise to appear for arraignment on February 21 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

MV Stop

State police report they stopped motorist Randall Re, 32, of Danbury on Interstate 84 at about 1:39 am on February 7 to investigate. State police charged Re with driving under suspension, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and second-degree failure to appear in court. After processing, state police released Re on $15,500 bail for a February 26 appearance in Derby Superior Court, and for a February 27 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Intersection Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Hattertown Road and Boggs Hill Road about 11:30 am on February 7.

The collision involved motorist Adriana Goulart, 49, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2016 GMC Canyon pickup truck, and David Quong, 65, of Monroe, who was driving a 2016 Peterbilt Conventional 337 medium-duty truck, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported a GMC passenger to Danbury Hospital. Goulart was issued an infraction for making an improper turn.

Van Vs Guardrails

About 11:45 am on February 7, Miguel Angel Reyes-Cardona, 36, of Waterbury was driving a 2017 Nissan NV-200 van northward near 106 Walnut Tree Hill Road amid snowy/icy pavement conditions, when the vehicle went into a skid and struck some guardrailing, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Reyes-Cardona for traveling too fast for conditions.

Chevrolet Hits Pole

About 4:50 pm on February 7, amid freezing rain and slushy conditions, motorist Joseph Redmond, 17, of Redding, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt northward near 52 Flat Swamp Road, encountered slush on the road, lost control of the vehicle, and then struck a utility pole, police said.

Because the vehicle's airbag deployed, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps was called to the scene, where it evaluated and then released Redmond. Redmond received a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions, according to police.

Slippery Street

Amid icy conditions at about 4:55 pm on February 7, motorist Richard Boland, 22, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1991 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward near 12 Philo Curtis Road, lost control of the vehicle, and then a hit curbside mailbox and a utility pole, police report.

There were no injuries. Boland was verbally warned for traveling too fast for conditions.

Pickup Off Road

Motorist Keith Manca, 44, of Newtown was driving a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck southward on Poverty Hollow Road, about 300 feet south of Equestrian Ridge, about 5:15 pm on February 7, when while negotiating a slight left curve in the roadway amid slick conditions, he lost control of the vehicle, went off the right road shoulder and then struck a fence, entered a ditch, and hit a tree, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Manca for traveling too fast for conditions.

Chevy Vs Ford

A vehicular accident occurred at the southern intersection of South Main Street and Appleblossom Lane about 5:48 pm on February 1.

Motorist Lisa Parsons, 33, of Newtown, who was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu auto on South Main Street, made a turn and then struck a 2005 Ford F-350 pickup truck, which was stopped at a stop sign on Appleblossom Lane at its intersection with South Main Street, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Parsons an infraction for a driver's license violation and for a travel lane violation.

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road about 7:40 am on February 10. The collision involved motorist Acyr Penna, 39, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Forester SUV, and motorist Robert Germann, 25, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, police said. There were no injuries. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters responded to the incident. Penna received an infraction for illegal passing on the right, police said.
