Larceny Charge

Police report that at about 5:43 pm on December 21, they received a call from store staff at Caraluzzi’s Market at 5 Queen Street informing them of a possible case of theft by a worker at the store, so police responded to the business.

After investigating, police charged Stephen Wilkinson, 57, of Danbury with sixth-degree larceny in connection with alleged theft.

Police said they released Wilkinson on a written promise to appear on January 5 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.

BMW vs Chevy

Police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Church Hill Road near its intersection with Edmond Road about 4:50 pm on December 23.

Motorist Rolando DaSilva, 56, of Southbury, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Express van, stopped and was waiting in traffic on eastbound Church Hill Road, when the Chevrolet was struck from behind by motorist Erica Thill, 19, of 50 Cobblers Mill Road, who was driving a 2002 BMW 530-I, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Thill for following too closely.

Minivan Rollover

Police report that motorist Joanna Melfi, 76, of Monroe was driving a 2001 Dodge Caravan minivan northward on New Lebbon Road, near its intersection with Marlin Road, about 3:42 pm on December 2, when she lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway, it exited the road, and then overturned.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Melfi a misdemeanor summons on three motor vehicle violations.

Shoplifting

Police said they are investigating a case of shoplifting that occurred at the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street about 1 pm on December 3.

Police report that a man left the store carrying numerous items which he had had not bought. Police described the white man as being in his 20s, with short, dark hair. The man left the premises driving a dark red Jeep with New York marker plates. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Asleep At The Wheel

Police report a one-vehicle accident near 4 Shut Road in Dodgingtown about 11:49 am on December 25.

Police report that motorist Mark Briganti, 52, of 9 Shut Road was driving a 2011 GMC Acadia SUV southward on Shut Road when he fell asleep at the wheel and then drove off the right road shoulder, striking a large rock, causing the SUV to roll over and land on its left side on the street.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Briganti for making a restricted turn.

Dodge vs Wall

Police said motorist Jamar Demoreio Rawles, 32, of Waterbury was driving a 2011 Dodge Caliber auto southward on Boggs Hill Road, near Willow Brook Lane, about 6:13 am on December 25, when while negotiating a curve in the road, a deer entered the street.

Rawles swerved to avoid the deer, but then drove off the road and struck a stone wall, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Rawles for making a restricted turn.

2-Vehicle Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Hawleyville Road about 5:40 pm on December 24, according to police.

Police said the accident involved motorist Glen Athans, 58, of Bethel, who was driving a 2008 Jeep Wrangler SUV, and motorist Michelle DiFalco, 29, of Bethel, who was driving a 2014 Subaru Outback.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Athans a written warning for unsafe backing.

I-84 Accident

State police report that motorist Louise Tambascio, 73, of Danbury, entered the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84 at about 4:23 pm on December 26, and then lost control of the vehicle, drove off the road’s left shoulder and struck some flex-beam metal guardrailing.

Tambascio reported pain, but did not want medical attention at the scene, state police said. State police said they warned Tambascio for failure to drive in the established lane.

Highway Collision

State police report that motorist Karol Barahona-Godoy, 27, of Danbury was driving a 1997 Honda Accord eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 10:25 am on December 19, when the auto had an equipment failure.

The Honda then struck some flex-beam metal guardrailing along the right road shoulder. There were no injuries. State police said they issued the motorist an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane and for driving without a license.

Two Warrants

After learning that they held two warrants for her arrest, Susan Chicos, 37, of Bridgeport went to the police station on the evening of December 26, and was charged with two separate counts of second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with past incidents, police said.

After processing, police released Chicos on $2,000 bail for a January 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Slushy Road Conditions

Police report that at about 8:42 am on December 29, motorist Ilea Dell, 23, of 2 Shepaug Road was driving a 1998 Honda CR-V SUV downhill and southward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, near its intersection with Schoolhouse Hill Road, when she sneezed and also started sliding on the slushy roadway.

The SUV skidded and then struck a tree alongside the street, police said. Ambulance staffers responded to the scene to make a medical evaluation, police said. Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters responded to the incident. Police said they verbally warned Dell for making a restricted turn.
