Warrant

Police report they went to the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla, N.Y., on December 27, and arrested discharged prisoner Izabela Kenealy, 42, of Mt Kisco, N.Y., on a warrant, charging her with reckless driving, disobeying the signal of a police officer, and improper passing in connection with a May 12 motor vehicle incident in Newtown.

Police said they released Kenealy in written promise to appear in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury on December 28.

Botsford Crash

Police said that trucker Antonio Ruiz, 43, of Hartford was driving a 2014 Freightliner M-2 truck southward on Botsford Hill Road, just south of its intersection with High Bridge Road, at about 8:50 am on December 26, after which he stopped and then starting backing up, striking the front end of a southbound 2014 Subaru Impreza driven by Christine Altieri, 36, of Sandy Hook.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Ruiz an infraction for improper backing.

South Main Street

Police report that motorist Carol Nykaza, 60, of Newtown was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta sedan northward near 92 South Main Street at about 1:33 pm on December 26, when the auto drove off the road's right shoulder and struck post and cable guard barriers.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Nykaza for making a restricted turn.

Toddy Hill Collision

About 8:28 pm on December 26, motorist Scott Bierce, 27, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2006 Honda CR-V SUV southward on Toddy Hill Road, about 300 feet south of its intersection with Quarry Ridge Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Robert Lombardo, 18, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2005 Hyundai Sonata sedan northward there, police said.

The Honda then crossed the road's center line in attempting to pass a southbound noncontact vehicle, but in making that maneuver, the Honda struck the Hyundai, police said.

Both motorists went to Danbury Hospital following the collision, police report. The accident is under investigation, according to police.

SUV vs Pole

Police report that at about 12:27 am on December 24, motorist Christopher Jaouen, 41, of Bethel was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty SUV southward on Queen Street, near its intersection with Lorraine Drive, when a small animal ran out across the road in front of the Jeep.

Jaouen told police that he tried to avoid striking the animal by swerving to the right, but in doing so, the Jeep struck a utility pole. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

SUV Hits Lightpost

Motorist Mildred Gonzalez, 47, of Danbury was driving a 2008 Honda CR-V SUV on westbound Interstate 84's Exit 11 on-ramp at about 2:19 am on December 22, when while approaching the mainline of the highway, she fell asleep at the wheel and drifted off the left road shoulder, striking a lightpost, shearing the pole off its mount, state police said. The Honda came to rest on an embankment.

There were no injuries. Gonzalez received a written warning for failure to drive in the established lane, state police said.

Lexus Key Found

Police report that at about 11:47 am on Friday, December 22, a single automotive key for a Lexus-brand vehicle was found lying on Castle Hill Road at its intersection with West Street.

The key's owner may contact Officer Fernando Pereira at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to claim the key.

DUI Arrest

Police said they responded at about 9:25 pm on Friday, December 22, to a report that a one-vehicle accident had occurred near 23 Bonnie Brae Drive.

Police said they learned after arriving at the scene that the vehicle's driver had fled the area on foot, so they started a search for the person. Newtown police said they called in a state police canine unit for aid in finding the missing driver.

Police later found the driver, Donald Butler, 58, of Newtown, in the driveway of a residence on John Beach Road, a distance of about 3,500 feet from the accident scene.

At 10:54 pm, police charged Butler with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, failure to drive to the right, and driving an unregistered vehicle. Following arrest processing, police released Butler on $500 bail for January 9 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Stop Sign

At about 11:22 pm on December 21, motorist Danielle Dasilva, 20, of Danbury was driving a 2012 Subaru Legacy sedan northward on Currituck Road, as motorist Jeremy Cappiello, 24, of Brookfield was driving a 2010 Toyota Yaris southward on Parmalee Hill Road, police said.

The Toyota then entered the intersection of the two roads and struck the Subaru, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Dasilva to Danbury Hospital to be checked due to the severity of the impact, police said. Police report they issued Cappiello an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Sideswipe Crash

State police report that a sideswipe accident occurred on westbound Interstate 84, near the Currituck Road overpass, at about 12:58 pm on December 20.

The vehicles involved in the accident were a 2018 Mack truck driven by Michael Tomer, 56, of Phillipsport, N.Y., and a 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan driven by Williams Hutchins, 68, of Conway, N.H., state police said. At the time of the collision, the truck was in the right lane of three lanes and the minivan was in the center lane, state police said.

There were no injuries. Because fault could not be determined, no enforcement action was taken.

Two Charges

Police report that at about 10 pm on December 20, they stopped a motorist on Mile Hill Road, near its intersection with Queen Street, to check on whether the vehicle being driven had an expired registration.

After investigating, they charged a passenger in the vehicle, Daryl Stovall, 22, of Bridgeport, with interfering with police and with violation of a protective order.

Police held Stovall on $5,000 bail overnight for a December 21 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury. In court, Stovall pleaded not guilty to both charges and was released on a written promise to return to court. He is scheduled to be back in court on January 25.

Chain Reaction

A three-vehicle chain reaction accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 8:04 pm on December 18, state police report.

In that incident, motorist Yvonne Allen, 58, of Simsbury, who was driving a 2010 Honda Civic, slowed for traffic conditions, as did motorist Karin Caufaglione, 48, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y., who was driving a 2015 Honda CR-V SUV behind the Civic.

Motorist Janice Stingle, 54, of North Granby, who was driving a 2012 Audi A-6 sedan, then struck the rear rend of the CR-V, pushing the CR-V into the rear end of the Civic.

There were no injuries. Stingle was verbally warned for following too closely, state police report.
