Traffic Stop

Police report that at about 9 pm on April 29, they stopped motorist Arturo Ramirez-Perez, 27, of Monroe near 301 South Main Street to investigate.

Police charged him with improper use of a marker plate and with driving without a license.

Interstate Crash

At about 12:27 pm on April 28, motorist Nelson Cardona, 22, of Springfield, Mass., who was driving a 2016 Honda Accord, struck the rear end of a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Ryan Rigon, 31, of Plymouth, state police said. The collision occurred on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9.

There were no injuries. Cardona was following too closely, state police said.

Intersection

At about 3:04 pm on April 28, motorist Melissa Jones, 41, of New Milford, who was driving a 2017 Kia Forte auto, drove onto a drainage structure and some curbing at the intersection of Taunton Hill Road, Great Hill Road, and Plumtrees Road, police said. There were no injuries.

Police verbally warned Jones for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Failure To Appear

On the morning of April 27, after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Edward Carmon, 53, of New Haven went to the police station and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, according to police.

The original incident occurred on February 23, when police stopped Carmon on Berkshire Road and charged him with three motor vehicle violations. On April 27, police held Carmon on $500 bail for a court arraignment that day. Carmon then pleaded not guilty in court to all charges. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on May 25.

Highway Accident

At about 6:26 pm on April 27, motorist Donald Brown, 61, of Nova Scotia, Canada, who was driving a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck, stopped for some halted traffic on eastbound Interstate 84, after which the Dodge was struck from behind by a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic auto driven by Ashley Bebyn, 19, of Manchester, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police issued Bebyn an infraction for following too closely.

Three Charges

Police report that on the evening of April 27, they spotted motorist Andrew Drap, 50, of Sandy Hook driving on Church Hill Road, and realized that they held three arrest warrants for him.

Police stopped Drap in the Pearl Street area and arrested him, charging him with two counts of first-degree failure to appear in court in connection with Newtown cases, and with one count of second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a Wolcott case.

After arrest processing, police released Drap on $13,000 bail for a May 10 appearance in court in Danbury, and a May 15 appearance in court in Waterbury.

DUI Warrant

Police report that on April 26 they went to the Botsford residence of Peter Lucas, 49, and served an arrest warrant against him in connection with a January 2 head-on collision on South Main Street, near its intersection with Bryan Lane.

Police charged Lucas with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

In the January 2 incident, Lucas was driving a 2012 Cadillac CTS sedan northward on South Main Street and then crossed over the road's center line into the southbound lane, where Lucas collided head-on with a southbound 2015 GMC Yukon SUV. Lucas was admitted as a patient at Danbury Hospital following the accident.

Following arrest processing on April 26, police released Lucas on $1,000 bail for arraignment on the charges of May 2 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Ford Vs Honda

Police report a two-vehicle accident near the driveway for Tractor Supply at 116 South Main Street at about 5:02 pm on April 26.

Motorist Johanna Rauch, 35, of Newtown, who was driving a 2014 Honda Pilot SUV northward on South Main Street, stopped, and was attempting to make a left turn to enter the driveway, as motorist Scott Clarke, 50, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck, was stopped at a stop sign at the end of the driveway.

The Ford then attempted to make a left turn to travel northward on South Main Street and the two vehicles collided.

There were no injuries. Police issued Clarke an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Washington Avenue

Police report that motorist Elizabeth Xinping Pratt, 17, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2003 Mercedes-Benz ML-350 SUV on Washington Avenue about 2:52 pm on April 25, put on a turn signal and stopped in preparing to make a left turn, after which the Mercedes was struck from behind by a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Tyler Reese Gaynor, 18, of Sandy Hook.

There were no injuries. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident to evaluate the drivers, according to police. Police verbally warned Gaynor for following too closely.

Sexual Assault

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Eric Gibbons, 21, of Sandy Hook turned himself over to police late on the morning of April 24 and was charged with second-degree sexual assault.

Police said that after receiving a complaint on January 24, 2017, they investigated the claims made against Gibbons by a person under age 16. Police then applied for an arrest warrant and received it from the court.

After processing, police released Gibbons on bail for a May 8 arraignment on the felony charge in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Currituck/Main

At about 9:13 am on April 24, a two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street and Currituck Road.

Police said motorist Linda Wright, 63, of Brookfield, was driving a 2018 BMW-XI auto northward on Main Street, as motorist David Metviner, 55, of Brookfield, was driving a 2005 Nissan X-Terra SUV southward on Currituck Road. The Nissan then attempted to make a left turn onto southbound Main Street, resulting in the two vehicles colliding. Currituck Road is controlled by a stop sign at that location.

There were no injuries. Police issued Metviner an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Honda Off Road

Police report that at about 12:09 pm on April 24, motorist Kaylee Sideleau, 16, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2002 Honda Civic auto eastward on Riverside Road, about 500 feet east of its intersection with Timber Mill Road, drove off the roadway and struck an earthen embankment.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Sideleau for making a restricted turn.

Hawleyville Crash

State police report an accident on Hawleyville Road at the end of eastbound Interstate 84's Exit 9 off-ramp at about 12:21 pm on April 24.

Motorist Richard Horvath, 71, of Newtown, was driving a Mazda CX-5 SUV southward on Hawleyville Road, as motorist Danielle Bolner, 39, of Weston, who was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox SUV, stopped at the end of the off-ramp. The Chevrolet then entered Hawleyville Road and collided with the Mazda, state police said.

There were no injuries. Bolner received an infraction for unsafe movement of a stopped vehicle.

Dodgingtown Accident

At about 4:42 pm on April 24, a two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Dodgingtown Road and Cemetery Road, according to police.

Motorist Patricia Dawley, 55, of Newtown, who was driving a 2009 Audi A-4 Cabriolet westward on Dodgingtown Road, slowed and signaled, indicating that she planned to make a left turn onto Cemetery Road, police said.

Westbound motorist Melquisedec Paulino, 21, of Danbury, who was driving a 2010 Honda Civic auto, then struck the rear end of the Audi, police report. Both drivers, and an Audi passenger, reported suspected minor injuries. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene to assess all three persons, all of whom declined ambulance transport. Police issued Paulino an infraction for following too closely.

Interchange Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and westbound Interstate 84's Exit 9 off-ramp at about 10:36 am on April 22.

Motorist Byron Johnson, 69, of Danbury was driving a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup truck on the Exit 9 off-ramp, as motorist Ronald Fredenberg, 70, of Stratford, was driving a 2006 Hyundai Elantra auto northward on Hawleyville Road, police said. The Ford then attempted to make a left turn to go southward on Hawleyville, but the two vehicles collided. There were no injuries.

Police issued Johnson a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

Distracted Driving

At about 12:11 pm on April 21, motorist Edwin Schmedlin, 86, of Shelton was driving a 2017 Honda Accord northward on South Main Street and then stopped at a traffic signal at that road's intersection with Mile Hill Road, police report.

Police said motorist Benjamin Riek, 17, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 2015 Jeep Wrangler SUV behind the Honda, then looked downward at his cellphone and drove into the rear end of the Honda. There were no injuries.

Police issued Riek an infraction for distracted driving.
