DUI Arrest

State police said they responded to a report that 2011 Chevrolet Malibu was being driven erratically on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 8 pm on February 14.

The driver of the Chevrolet also had become involved in an accident, state police said.

State police charged motorist Holly Cocchiola, 42, of Waterbury with driving under the influence, illegal possession of narcotics, use of drug paraphernalia, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, evading responsibility, failure to drive in the proper lane, and using improper access to a controlled access highway.

Cocchiola was released on $2,500 bail for a March 2 court appearance, state police said.

Shoplifting Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Branden Betas, 24, of Bridgeport went to the police station on the night of February 19 and was charged with sixth-degree larceny in connection with an alleged shoplifting incident on December 2 at the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street, police said.

Police allege that Betas entered the store and took items including Red Bull-brand energy drink, Tide-brand laundry detergent, some candy, and toilet paper, valued at several hundred dollars overall, and then left the store with the merchandise without paying for it.

After processing Betas's arrest, police released him on a written promise to appear in court on March 8.

Walnut Tree Village

Police report that late on the night of February 12, and on the morning of February 13, someone entered two motor vehicles parked near two condominium units on Louis Hill Road, just west of its intersection with Haley Lane, and then stole items from within those vehicles.

The dwellings are located at Walnut Tree Village, a 212-unit age-restricted condo complex off Walnut Tree Hill Road. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the thefts to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Evading Responsibility

Police report that at about 7:40 am on February 18, a man who was driving a black or maroon Nissan Maxima sedan, which had Connecticut marker plates starting with the numeral "4," struck the rear end of another vehicle near the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road.

The Nissan driver did not stop to talk to the victim after the crash and drove away on Toddy Hill Road, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841

Arrest Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Peter Spath, 70, of 5 Dusty Lane went to the police station on the afternoon of February 18 and was charged with second-degree criminal trespassing, second-degree criminal mischief, and sixth-degree larceny, police said.

The arrest stems from two incidents which occurred in a landlord-tenant dispute on Dusty Lane last September, police said.

Police released Spath on a written promise to appear on March 3 in Danbury Superior Court.

Lexus vs Mercedes

At about 9:30 pm on February 14, Ryan Underwood, 22, of New Canaan, who was driving a 2005 Lexus GX-470 SUV in the parking lot at Toro Restaurant at 28 Church Hill Road, struck a parked, unoccupied 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-350 sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Berkshire Road Collision

Police report that motorist Cynthia Reynolds, 24, of 7 Mountain Laurel Lane was driving a 2006 Honda Element SUV northward on Berkshire Road behind northbound motorist Michael Kascak, 62, of 54 Pole Bridge Road, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Legacy at about 1:30 pm on February 17.

The Subaru stopped abruptly and was then struck from behind by the Honda, police said. The collision occurred near Berkshire Road's intersection with Wasserman Way.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Reynolds a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Toyota vs Honda

At about 4:30 pm February 18, motorist William Gentile, 42, of Waterbury was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan westward on Church Hill Road, as motorist Veronica Webb, 19, of 85 Great Quarter Road was driving a 2007 Honda Accord eastward there, police said.

The Toyota then attempted to make a left turn to enter the Blue Colony Diner parking lot, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

There were no injuries. Gentile received a misdemeanor summons for failure to grant the right of way and for driving with a suspended license, police said.

Rear-Ender

Police said that at about 6:30 pm on February 18, motorist Vicki Sosbe, 45, of New Milford, who was driving a 2016 Honda Pilot SUV eastward Church Hill Road, stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto The Boulevard, but was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist Shkelzen Kralani, 48, of Breswter, N.Y., who was driving a 1997 Acura RL sedan.

There were no injuries. Kralani received a written warning for following too closely, according to police.

Warrant

Police report they went to the residence of Andrew Delventhal, 24, of 18 Shepaug Road on the night of February 18 and served an arrest warrant against him on a charge of failure to respond to an infraction.

Police said that Delventhal had received an infraction in the past to which he did not respond, either by paying a fine or by challenging the infraction in court, so a warrant was issued for his arrest. The infraction involved a motor vehicle violation that occurred in November, police said.

After processing, Delventhal posted cash bail and was released for a March 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Ford vs Subaru

At about 5 pm on February 19, motorist Michelle Saviano, 25, of 3 Shamrock Lane, who was driving a 2008 Subaru Impreza southward on South Main Street, near Greenbriar Lane, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Fritz Innocent, 52, of Seymour, who was driving a 2011 Ford Fusion, according to police.

There were no injuries. Innocent received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

I-84 Collision

At about 4:24 pm on February 18, motorist Jamie Blankley, 36, of Seymour, who was driving a 2014 Nissan Rogue SUV eastward on Interstate 84 about 2,500 feet east of Exit 9, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist Jeanne McGrayne, 58, of Carthage, N.C., who was driving a 2016 Ford Escape SUV, according to state police.

There were no injuries. McGrayne received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, state police said.

Interstate Accident

At about 8 am on February 17, motorist James Lines, 44, of Bristol, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Celica auto westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, struck a 2013 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Michelle Warren, 33, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., state police said.

There were no injuries. Lines received an infraction for making an unsafe lane change, state police said.

Ford vs Guardrail

State police report that motorist Emma Wolfman, 17, of 30 Obtuse Road was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus sedan on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 4:10 pm on February 15, when the vehicle went out of control and struck some guardrailing. There were no injuries. Wolfman received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, state police said.

Thunderbird Crash

Police report that motorist Richard Haight, 33, of Monroe was driving a 1994 Ford Thunderbird coupe northward on South Main Street, near Swamp Road, about 11:10 am on February 18, when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck three wooden guardposts, plus a utility pole.

There were no injuries, Police said they issued Haight an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Chevrolet Vs Jeep

Motorist Peter Masella, 66, of 85 Flat Swamp Road, who was driving a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV westward on Church Hill Road, near The Boulevard, about 5:44 pm on February 17, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Molly Evenski, 23, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Evenski a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
