Soccer Shoes Found

On the night of June 20, a person went to the police station and turned over to police a pair of Nike brand soccer shoes in good condition that were found lying on Philo Curtis Road, near Treadwell Park, according to police.

The shoes' owner may claim them at the police station at 3 Main Street; telephone 203-270-4255..

DUI Arrest

Police report that while on patrol about 10:50 pm on June 19, they spotted a person who was driving a 2015 Mazda CX-5 SUV swerving while traveling northward on South Main Street, after which the auto made an illegal right turn onto eastbound Mile Hill Road. Police followed the Mazda and stopped it on Wasserman Way to investigate.

Police report they charged motorist Roberta Severino, 33, of Danbury with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and failure to obey traffic signs/markings.

Following processing, police released Severino on $250 bail for a July 5 court appearance.

Honda Vs Tree

About 4:56 pm on June 19, motorist William Hawke, 17, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2005 Honda Pilot SUV northward on High Rock Road near Grays Plain Road, attempted to make a turn, but slid off the roadway and entered a ditch, after which he struck a tree, police report.

Hawke received a minor injury, but refused medical attention, police said. Police issued Hawke an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Center

About 11:50 am on June 18, motorist Laurie Wright, 51, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry sedan, was attempting to exit a driveway at 96 Church Hill Road as motorist Anne Sullivan, 84, of Southbury was driving a 2010 Ford Focus eastward on Church Hill Road, according to police.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Wright a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

DUI Reported

Just after midnight on June 17, after receiving reports of an erratic operator, police responded to the area of Berkshire and Great Quarter Roads. After locating a suspect vehicle and investigating, officers charged Brooke Ellen Leifels, 23, of Newtown, with operating under the influence and failure to drive in a proper lane.

Leifels was issued a court date of July 6, and released on a $100 cash bond.

Traveling Too Fast

On June 17 at about 10:22 pm, police responded to the area of Botsford Hill and High Bridge Roads after a reported one-car collision. Upon arrival, police say that Kimberly Anne Guedes, 50, of Monroe had been operating a 2018 BMW 430xi northbound on Botsford Hill Road when she failed to negotiate a curve and struck an embankment.

After complaining of an injury, the operator was evaluated by Stony Hill ambulance volunteers and refused transport to the hospital.

Guedes was then issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Fight At Bar

On June 17 at about 9:09 pm, multiple officers responded to a fight at or near the Foundry Restaurant in Sandy Hook. Upon arrival they found one participant being treated for a cut to the head, and another for a cut to the hand.

Upon investigation, police charged Lori Logan, 44, of New Fairfield, with breach of peace and assault in the third degree. Police also charged Jonathan Neuhauesi, 43, of Southbury, with breach of peace.

Neuhauesi was released on a $500 bond, as was Logan. Both face court appearances on June 29.

Flag Pole Collision

Police say the operators of two vehicles involved in a June 16 crash at Main Street and Church Hill Road both reported injuries following a collision at about 6:40 pm that day.

According to the report, Russell Andrew, 73, of Monroe was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Church Hill Road when he stopped and then proceeded into the flagpole intersection where his truck was hit by a northbound 2013 Jeep Wrangler being operated by Matthew Francis Baldino, 21, of Newtown.

Both operators were treated on scene, and the Jeep was damaged to the extent that it was towed.

Russell was issued an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Drinking While Driving

After receiving a citizen report of a possible impaired operator, June 16, police responded to the area of Church Hill Road, where they located a vehicle matching the description made by the caller.

Upon investigating police say the arrested George Walker, 64, of Sandy Hook for DUI, and drinking while driving.

Walker was then released on a $500 bond pending a June 29 court appearance.

Separate Charges

A three-vehicle collision in the area of South Main Street and Elm Drive at about 4:08 pm on June 15 resulted in two of the three operators being charged.

Police say Mario Torres, 21, of Waterbury was northbound in a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup, when he stopped to make a left turn into a commercial business. A second vehicle - a 2102 Kia Forte operated by Maria Nugent, 19, of Plainville - came to a complete stop behind, when it was struck from behind by a 2004 Mazda 3 being operated by Cristina Anne Clayton of Warren, causing the Kia to impact the rear of the Ford. Clayton was then attended by Newtown Ambulance volunteers after complaining of head pain, and was transported to a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.

After investigating, police issued Clayton an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Nugent was also issued an infraction for operating without a license and operating an unregistered vehicle.

The Mazda and Kia were both towed from the scene.

Nissan vs Pole

Motorist Marjan Nemati, 40, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima southward on Toddy Hill Road, north of its intersection with Vining Road, about 11:30 am on June 15, when the vehicle drove off the right road shoulder and struck a utility pole, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said Nemati explained that her foot had slipped down between the accelerator pedal and brake pedal, resulting in the auto going out of control.

Police said they issued Nemati a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Avoiding A Deer

Police were called to Eden Hill Road in the area of Hi Barlow Road on June 14 at about 10:58 pm after a reported one-car collision. Upon arrival they found a 2012 Mercedes Benz Sprinter being operated by Edward Simon, 37, of Danbury had struck a tree in the area with its front bumper, and was towed from the scene. The driver told police he had swerved to avoid a deer, and was issued an infraction for making a restricted turn, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Red Light Crash

Police were called to a two-vehicle crash at approximately 6:01 pm on June 14 at the intersection of Toddy Hill and Berkshire Roads. Upon investigation, police say that Howard Thomas Driggers, 49, of Greensboro, N.C., was operating a Ford Explorer when he ran a red light and collided with a 2000 Chevrolet Sebring sedan being operated by Tyler Reese Gaynor, 17, of Sandy Hook.

Driggers was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey a traffic signal.

South Main Crash

At about 6:58 am on June 14, motorist Mosen Ahmaripour, 59, of Newtown was driving a 2006 Hummer H-3 SUV northward on South Main Street, as motorist Jennifer Castro-Cruz, 33, of Danbury was driving a 1999 Honda CR-V SUV southward there, according to police.

The Honda then attempted to make a left turn to enter eastbound Prospect Drive, resulting in the Honda and Hummer colliding, police said. There were no injuries.

Police report they issued Castro-Cruz an infraction for failure to grant the right of way while attempting a left turn.

Four-Way Stop

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the four-way-stop intersection of Hattertown Road, Key Rock Road, and Poverty Hollow Road about 4:21 pm on June 13.

Police said motorist Bryan Contreras, 21, of West Haven, who was driving a 2016 Honda HR-V SUV, struck a 2005 Toyota Camry driven by Javen Smart, 27, of Trumbull. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Contreras an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Restricted Turn

At about 12:07 pm on June 13, police responded to a minor two-vehicle collision at 64 Church Hill Road.

Upon investigation, officers learned that Sarah Jane Dowling, 17, of Sandy Hook was traveling westbound and stopped while waiting to turn into a commercial driveway. The operator said she was waved on to turn by another driver who was stopped in the oncoming lane, but when she turned, the 2011 Subaru Outback she was operating was struck by an eastbound 2008 Toyota Prius being operated by Owen Campbell Gaston, 21, of Newtown, causing minor damage to the front left sections of both vehicles.

Dowling stated she did not see the eastbound vehicle approaching, and was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Toyota Hits Guardcables

Motorist Jesse Sylvia, 30, of Milford, was driving a 2008 Toyota Solara auto northward near 150 South Main Street, about 7 am on June 13, when the vehicle ran off the right road shoulder and struck some guardcabling, police report.

There were no injuries.

Police issued Sylvia an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and for making a restricted turn.

Warrant

Police report that they arrested Ian Doerr, 27, of Sandy Hook on a warrant late on the morning of June 12, charging Doerr with violation of probation.

After processing the case, police released Doerr on $10,000 surety bail for a June 27 court appearance.

DUI Incident

Police said they received a report of a dispute occurring at a Huntingtown Road residence about 9:25 pm on June 11, after which they responded to investigate.

Police said they later spotted a person whom they were seeking in that incident entering his driveway at another address, after which they investigated. Police said they charged John Andrews, 46, of Newtown with driving under the influence and with violating a protective order. Police said they held Andrews on $1,500 bail for a June 12 appearance on the charges in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Andrews did not enter pleas to the charges at his June 12 arraignment. He was released from custody for a June 14 court appearance.

Church Hill Collision

On June 11 at about 11:51 am, police responded to a reported motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Church Hill Road and Commerce Drive.

Upon arrival, officers determined that Susan Blanar, 47, of Brewster, N.Y., was operating a 2014 Honda CRV eastbound when it was struck from behind by a 2005 Hyundai Elantra being operated by Brandon McIntyre, 21, of Sandy Hook.

Upon investigation, McIntyre was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Warrant

State police said that on June 11, they executed an arrest warrant at Troop A in Southbury against Joel Emanuel Albarran-Gonzalez, 34, of Danbury, charging him with speeding, reckless driving, and disobeying a police officer's signal to stop.

The arrest on three motor vehicle charges stems from a nighttime incident that occurred on December 19, 2016, state police said. Albarran-Gonzalez was held on $12,000 bail for a June 12 arraignment on the charges.

Damaged By Gate

On June 10 at approximately 10:17 pm, police say that Jason Pershinsky, 38, of Ridgefield, was operating a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado in Sandy Hook, when he attempted to turn around in the Sandy Hook School parking lot. Police say upon entering the lot through an automatic gate, he learned he would not be able to exit and attempted to reverse his vehicle, which was then struck by the closing entrance gate, damaging the left side of the vehicle. Neither the driver or three occupants were injured.

Gun Brandished

State police report that at about 4:45 pm on June 10, a male passenger in a gray 2013 Nissan Rogue SUV, which was traveling westward on Interstate 84, brandished a handgun in the direction of a nearby vehicle. The Nissan then got off the highway at Exit 8. The vehicle had a Michigan marker plate with the number DPA-6149.

State police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Trooper Wayne Tate at Troop A in Southbury at 203-267-2240, ext 4371.

DUI Arrest

Police report that motorist James Bowers, 25, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra auto on Philo Curtis Road at about 2:15 am on June 10, when the vehicle drove off the street on a curve and smashed into a curbside residential mailbox near 24 Philo Curtis Road.

There were no injuries. After investigating the incident, police charged Bowers with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Bowers was released on $100 bail for a June 27 court appearance.

Exit 9 Ramp

Motorist Charlene Moll, 63, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-230 auto, stopped at a stop sign at the end of eastbound Interstate 84's Exit 9 off-ramp on June 9, after which the Mercedes was struck from behind by a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Alexa Rosetti, 24, of Danbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. Moll received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, state police said.

Toyota Vs Ford

At about 8:10 am on June 7, motorist Roseann Reggiano, 56, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck northward on Main Street, attempted to make a left turn into the southern driveway entrance at Town Hall South, but in doing so, the Toyota made contact with a stopped southbound 2005 Ford Focus auto driven by Erica Ann Majewski, 27, of Newtown, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Reggiano for making a restricted turn.

Currituck Crash

Motorist Lisa Burgess, 58, of Newtown, who was driving a 2014 BMW X-6 SUV southward on Currituck Road at about 4:34 pm on June 6, stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto Kenan Road, after which the BMW was struck from behind by southbound motorist Ronald Broccoli, 69, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-300 auto, police said.

There were no injuries. Broccoli received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police report.

Interstate Accident

At about 5:59 pm on June 6, on eastbound Interstate 84, motorist Joseph Butwell, 51, of Watertown, who was driving a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek SUV, slowed in traffic and was then struck from behind by motorist Jordan Branscum, 27, of Georgetown, Mass., who was driving a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan, according to state police.

There were no injuries. Branscum received an infraction for following too closely, state police report.

I-84 DUI

State police report that at about 6:47 pm on June 5 on Interstate 84, they stopped motorist Kevin Wasicki, 30, of Sandy Hook for a motor vehicle violation. State police said that after investigating, they charged Wasicki with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.

Following processing, state police released Wasicki on $500 nonsurety bail for a June 16 court appearance.

Dropped Driveshaft

State police report that at about 12:17 am on June 3 on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, a 2012 Volvo truck driven by Otgon Byambajav, 44, of Duvall, Wash., lost its driveshaft, with the device falling onto the highway, after which the fallen driveshift was run over by a Ford Mustang, a Kia Optima, and a Infiniti G-35, resulting in damage to those three vehicles' tires.

There were no injuries. All four vehicles needed to be towed away from the accident scene, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.

Church Hill Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred near 14 Church Hill Road about 2:31 pm on June 2, according to police.

In that incident, motorist Heather Azzarito, 16, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Forester SUV, struck a 1992 Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster driven by Rodrigo Montalvo, 19, of Newtown, police report. There were no injuries.

Police said they verbally warned Azzarito for making a restricted turn.

Main Street Accident

Police report that at about 3:55 pm on June 2, motorist Isabella Dominy, no age given, of Smithfield, R.I., who was driving a 1999 Toyota vehicle southward on Main Street near the police station, struck the rear end of a stopped southbound 2015 Buick Enclave SUV. There were no injuries, according to police.

Honda Vs Mercedes

Motorist Angelica Spraggins, 49, of Newtown, who was driving a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLA-250 SUV westward on Mt Pleasant Road about 7:41 am on June 1, stopped for a red traffic signal at the Mt Pleasant Road-Hawleyville Road intersection, after which westbound motorist Jamie Moise, 25, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2011 Honda Accord auto, struck the rear end of the Mercedes, according to police.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps evaluated Spraggins at the scene for back pain, but she refused transport, police report.

Police said they verbally warned Moise for following too closely.

Botsford Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Botsford Hill Road near the Housatonic Railroad overpass about 9:19 pm on June 1.

In that incident, motorist Calvin Gonzalez, 19, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2014 Nissan Maxima on a curve, struck a 2000 Mercedes-Benz auto driven by Joseph Manzi, 34, of Bridgeport, according to police. Police report that Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Nissan passenger Karina Molina, 18, of Bridgeport to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Police report they issued Gonzalez an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and for making a restricted turn.
