Jeep Vs Pole

About 5 pm on May 30, motorist Thomas Coppinger III, 16, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2011 Jeep Wrangler SUV eastward on West Street and while negotiating a left curve in the roadway, the vehicle drove off the right road shoulder and hit a utility pole, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Coppinger an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Coyote Crash

Motorist Steven Mayor, 55, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck eastward near 47 Sugar Street about 5:50 pm on May 30, when a coyote ran out onto the roadway, police said. Mayor swerved to avoid the animal, but then drove off the right road shoulder and struck a curbside mailbox, police said. There were no injuries.

Hattertown Road

Motorist Philip Occhiboi, 21, of Brookfield was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla sedan southward on Hattertown Road, just north of its intersection with Hi Barlow Road, about 4 pm on May 28, when the auto traveled to the right and then struck some post-and-cable safety barriers, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Occhiboi for a moving violation.

DUI Incident

Police report that they stopped a motorist who was driving a 50 miles per hour in a posted 30-mph zone near 65 Toddy Hill Road at about 6:22 pm on May 27.

Police report that after investigating, they charged Chelsea Ferris, 24, of Sandy Hook with driving under the influence and with traveling unreasonably fast.

After processing, police released Ferris on $260 bail for a June 13 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Drugs/Alcohol

Police said they responded to a report of suspicious vehicle that was parked with its lights on behind a vacant house on Huntingtown Road, at about 9:35 pm on May 27.

Police said they found three males inside that vehicle, after which they investigated.

Police said they charged Nicholas Hall, 18, of Newtown with possession of more than one-half ounce of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of alcohol by a minor. Police said they charged Joseph Fiorella, 18, of Newtown with possession of more than one-half ounce of marijuana. Also, police said they issued Christopher Lafky, 19, of Sandy Hook an infraction for possession of alcohol by a minor.

Police report that they released both Hall and Fiorella on $500 nonsurety bail each. Both men are scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Danbury on June 13. Because Lafky received an infraction, he has the options of either paying a fine or challenging the violation in court.

Berkshire Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident on southbound Berkshire Road, about 200 feet south of its intersection with Oakview Road, about 7:22 am on May 25.

Police said motorist Necole Salvesen, 45, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2015 BMW 328-XI auto, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the BMW was struck from behind by a 2016 Jeep Renegade SUV driven by Makenna Cerney, 18, of Newtown.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Cerney for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Two Warrants

After he learned that police held two warrants for his arrest, Victor Vasquez, 20, of Sandy Hook went to the police station on the night of May 24 and was charged with two separate counts of failure to respond to a payable violation, police said.

On February 27, a judge had ordered that those warrants be issued.

Police report they held Vasquez on $801 bail for an appearance on the charges on May 25 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

In one of the two pending cases, police on June 10, 2016, had charged Vasquez with violation of a traffic control signal, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. In the other pending case, police on October 9, 2016, had charged Vasquez with possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Vasquez had pleaded not guilty to all five charges.

Boat Repair

Police report that on May 24 they served an arrest warrant in New Haven against Jeremy Kell, 35, of New Haven, on a charge of fifth-degree larceny.

Police report that Kell had been recommended to a local man as a person who could make some boat repairs for that man. The man and Kell agreed that the boat repairs would be made for $1,500, police said. So that Kell could obtain the materials needed for those repairs, the man agreed to pay Kell $750 of the $1,500 sum, police said.

Mr Kell, however, never performed the work, resulting in police investigating the incident and then obtaining the warrant for his arrest.

Kell could not post the $750 bail in the case and was thus held by police for arraignment on the larceny charge on May 25 in state Superior Court in Danbury. Kell pleaded not guilty to the charge. He is scheduled to return to court on June 8.

Chrysler Off Road

Police report that motorist Karen Orzechowski, 61, of Newtown was driving a 2012 Chrysler 200 sedan eastward on Poverty Hollow Road, west of its intersection with Flat Swamp Road, about 2 pm on May 23, when after entering a curve in the roadway to the left, the auto traveled straight, drove off the right side of the road, struck a wooden fence, and then hit a tree. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Orzechowski an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Three Charges

Newtown police report they went to the residence of Hyun Jung Yoon, 22, in Fairfield, on the evening of May 23, and arrested her on a warrant listing charges of tampering with physical evidence and interfering with police in connection with January 16 incident in Newtown.

Newtown police said they learned that Norwalk police also held a warrant for Yoon, so Newtown police additionally charged her with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with failing to appear in court in Norwalk on January 20.

Newtown police said they held Yoon on $6,000 bail for a May 24 appearance in state court in Danbury.

Van Vs SUV

At about 7:39 am on May 23, motorist Michael Noah, 41, of Danbury was driving a 2011 Honda CR-V SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, as motorist Brian Shepard, 34, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2003 Ford Econoline E-150 van, attempted to exit the driveway at 51 Berkshire Road to head eastward, police report.

The two vehicles then collided. There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Shepard for failure to grant the right of way.

Toddy Hill Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred on Toddy Hill Road about 5:21 pm on May 22, police report.

Police said southbound motorist Mary Anderson, 52, of Newtown, who was driving a 2013 Audi Q-5 SUV, stopped in preparing to make a left turn into a private driveway, after which the Audi was struck from behind by a 2003 Ford Escape SUV driven by Amber Kay, 17, of Seymour.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Kay for following too closely.

Toddy Hill Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred amid wet road conditions about 5:19 pm on May 22 on Toddy Hill Road, police said.

Southbound motorist Lilia Alvarez, 39, of Newtown, who was driving a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, stopped and was preparing to make a left turn into a driveway at 139 Toddy Hill, after which the Nissan was struck from behind by southbound motorist Leroy Murray, 82, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Mazda 626 auto, which had skidded on the slippery road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Murray an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Chevrolet Vs Volvo

At about 5:32 pm on May 21, motorist Adreas Petrakopoulos, 85, of Seymour was driving a 1973 Chevrolet vehicle northward on South Main Street, as motorist Adria Thompson, 43, of Southbury, who was driving a 2016 Volvo XC-90, was stopped and waiting at a stop sign on the western section of Borough Lane, police said.

The Chevrolet than attempted to make a left turn to enter Borough Lane, but in doing so, the Chevrolet struck the Volvo, police said. There were no injuries.

Police issued Petrakopoulos an infraction for making a restricted turn and for failure to wear a seat belt.

South Main Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on South Main Street at the entrance to the Plaza South shopping center about 6:45 pm on May 20. The collision involved motorist Amy Fasel, 23, of Monroe, who was driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML-350 SUV, and motorist Dawn Harco-Pfahl, 54, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Fasel for failure to grant the right of way.

DUI/Firearm

Police report that at about 5:30 pm on May 20, Michael Fitzpatrick, 64, of Shelton went to the police station and spoke to a dispatcher who informed police that Fitzpatrick might be intoxicated, so police investigated.

Police said Fitzpatrick was attempting to exit a parking space at the police station parking lot when they approached him, after which they investigated and arrested Fitzpatrick on charges of driving under the influence and illegally carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Following arrest processing, police released Fitzpatrick from custody on $300 bail. Fitzpatrick is scheduled for arraignment on the charges on June 6 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Fairfield Hills

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Trades Lane at its intersection with Wasserman Way at Fairfield Hills about 4:10 pm on May 20.

Police said motorist Jennifer Gailey, 34, of New Milford, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Echo, was traveling southward on Trades Lane and then stopped at its intersection with Wasserman Way. Southbound motorist Alexandra Pelletier, 29, of Newtown, who was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion, then struck the rear end of the Toyota, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Pelletier for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Ford Vs BMW

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Country Club Road about 11:16 am on May 20.

Motorist Jessica Kane, 39, of Newtown, who was driving a 2006 Ford Explorer SUV, was heading northward on South Main Street, as motorist Nicholas Corsaro, 42, of Newtown, was driving a 2014 BMW 535-XI sedan southward, police said.

The Ford then attempted to make a left turn to enter westbound Country Club Road, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene to check on possible injuries to a child passenger in the Ford, police said.

Police report they verbally warned Kane for failure to grant the right of way.

South Main Crash

Police report that a two-vehicle collision occurred on South Main Street, near Waterfall Plaza in Botsford, about 4:11 pm on May 19.

In that incident, a 2009 Lincoln Navigator SUV driven by Zaeem Shahzad Chaudary, 21, of Monroe, struck a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck driven by Mario Alberghini, 57, of Stratford, police report. There were no injuries.

Police said they verbally warned Chaudary for failure to drive to the right.

Chain Reaction

Police report that a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred on westbound Berkshire Road, about 500 feet west of its intersection with Wasserman Way, at about 4:33 pm on May 19. Police said motorist Joseph Casagrande, 56, of Skillman, N.J., who was driving a 2004 Infiniti QX-5 auto, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Sandra Lobo, 46, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2014 Honda Accord auto, stopped behind the Infiniti.

Motorist Aidan O'Leary, 17, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2015 Mazda 6 auto, then struck the rear end of the Honda, pushing the Honda into the rear end of the Infiniti, police said. There were no injuries.

O'Leary received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Flagpole Intersection

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the Main Street flagpole intersection about 7:37 am on May 18.

Motorist Jennifer Guman, 39, of Newtown who was driving a 2010 Jeep Wrangler SUV, was traveling westward on Church Hill Road, as motorist Tammy McMichael, 27, of Bridgeport was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla sedan northward on Main Street, police report.

The Jeep then entered the intersection, resulting in a collision, according to police. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Guman an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Stop-And-Go

State police report that in stop-and-go traffic amid heavy vehicular volume on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, at about 8:05 am on May 18, motorist Erick Nass, 27, of Seymour, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, struck the rear end of a 2015 Subaru Forester SUV driven by Marci Kaminski, 66, of Southbury. There were no injuries.

Enforcement information was not available.

Heavy Traffic 

In heavy traffic conditions about 4:49 pm on May 18, motorist Brian Hannigan, 52, of Southington, who was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan eastward on Interstate 84 just west of Exit 11, struck the rear end of a 2000 Nissan XTE SUV driven by Sean Scully 24, of Sewell, N.J., state police report.

There were no injuries.

Hannigan received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, state police said.

Chevy Vs Toyota

During heavy traffic conditions at about 4:58 pm on May 18, motorist Daryl Rollo, 56, of Bristol, who was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, struck the rear end of a 2015 Toyota Corolla sedan driven by Cannea Ferguson, 24, of Waterbury, on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 11, state police said. There were no injuries.

Rollo received an infraction for failure to drive reasonable distance apart, state police said.

Sandy Hook Crash

Police responded to an accident at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Jordan Hill Road at about 5:07 pm on May 18.

Motorist Frances McCutchan, 67, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2011 Lincoln MKX SUV stopped at a stop sign on Jordan Hill Road, as motorist Charles Aldrich, 18, of Shelton was driving a 1997 Honda Accord eastward on Berkshire Road, police said.

The Honda then attempted to make a right turn from Berkshire Road onto Jordan Hill Road, but the Honda struck the Lincoln, police report. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Aldrich an infraction for making an improper right turn.

Dodgingtown Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Dodgingtown Road, near its intersection with Taunton Hill Road, about 3:13 pm on May 17.

Motorist Shelby Kurjiaka, 23, of Danbury, who was driving a 2007 Honda Civic northward on Dodgingtown Road, slowed for a noncontact vehicle, after which a northbound 2016 Lexus IS-300 auto driven by Amelia Fekieta, 24, of Bethel, struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries.

Police said they verbally warned Fekieta for following too closely.

Chain Reaction

At about 8:54 am on May 16, motorist Jason Silva, 30, of Danbury, who was driving a 2010 Acura TSX sedan eastward on Interstate 84, just west of Exit 11, slowed for traffic conditions, after which eastbound motorist Thomas Morse, 22 of Marble Dale, who was driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler SUV, slowed behind the Acura, state police said.

Eastbound motorist Ryan Shollar, 26, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata sedan, then struck the rear end of the Jeep, pushing the Jeep into the rear end of the Acura, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police report they issued Shollar an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Arrest

State police said that about 3 am on May 13, they and Southbury municipal police received numerous calls about an erratically driven black 2008 Nissan Maxima sedan, which was traveling westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 14, so they went to the area to investigate.

State police said Southbury police spotted the Nissan parked on I-84's right road shoulder in Sandy Hook, west of Rochambeau Bridge, so they investigated. Motorist Randy Rivera, 51, of Woodbury, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence, according to state police.

Rivera posted $1,000 nonsurety bail for a May 25 court appearance.

Police report that motorist Glenn Holcomb, 57, of Newtown, was driving a 2009 Suzuki SX4 SUV southward on Brushy Hill Road, near the Newtown Country Club golf course, about 5:02 pm on May 31, when the vehicle struck a curb, climbed an embankment, hit a tree, and then rolled over, landing on its roof on the roadway. There were no injuries. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members and Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. A two-vehicle accident occurred at the four-way signalized intersection of Dodgingtown Road, Taunton Hill Road, and Jacklin Road, about 3 pm on May 19. Police report that motorist Erin Carol, 18, of Redding, who was driving a 2000 Subaru Forester SUV, made a left turn in front of an approaching 1999 Ford Escort driven by Emma Whitley, 24, of Bethel, resulting in a collision. Both women received minor injuries, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Whitley to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said. Dodgingtown volunteer firefighters responded to the accident scene. Police report they issued Carol an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at an intersection. (Bee Photo, Gorosko)
Motorist Domingos Anthony Cabeleira, 21, of Newtown, was driving a 2000 Honda Accord sedan southward on Turkey Hill Road and then looped its turnaround circle at high speed at about 3 pm on May 21, after which the auto went out of control, police said. The Honda then drove off the roadway and flipped over, landing on its roof in the front yard at 54 Turkey Hill Road, police said. The vehicle damaged the turf in the yard with its wheels and also spilled gasoline onto the ground, police said. Cabeleira received minor injuries, police said. Botsford volunteer firefighters responded to the incident. Police said they issued Cabeleira an infraction listing charges of traveling too fast for conditions and making a restricted turn.
